Thank you to all of you!! First I tried limiting the bandwidth drastically. That didn't help. Then I rebooted my wlan rooter and wuala - it's working again. I don't know, but it seems like my rooter kept the connections up permanently and could not handle them any more. I have a avm fritz!box fon wlan 7050, which is of course not a really new model.

At this stage I seem to recall that the Wuala team does indeed have a complete backup of all files on their servers.
Hence your file would be save....
I would however tend agree with Bugreport that you should not solely rely on Wuala to store your file since this is still an Alpha version and we have hence not ever reached feature-completeness. (By the definiton of apha stage)

It seem that indeed something has changed. But now there is something else which is unclear: My cache limit is 1GB It says that 800MB are used. When I click clear cache, 0.8GB turns into 2.5Gb (???) If I then close the Options window and reopen it says 2.5GB again. If I Save the options windows, it says 800MB and does the same thing all over... That really has me confused... – Darkstriker, 1 day ago

I would NOT recommend uploading files that you would regret to loose to Wuala yet, after all it's in its Alpha stage.
What if they find a much cleverer way of organising the data in the networt and have to wipe the existing one?
However your assumption is correct - if a file is uploaded (= to the server) _and_ maintained (= to the P2P cloud) it's very likely that you can retrieve the file anytime later. I guess however Luzius, Dominik or some other Caleido-guy can explain that better...

Basically, it's a classification of your connectivity, similar to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_t...
We don't need to test everything that's mentioned there, but we additionally test if your router supports loopback (i.e. if your computer receives packets your computer sends to its own external address). Mediated means that your computer might need help from the another computer to establish connections to some other nodes.
A comment on the question "Keep Local Backup option?" in Wuala:
There was a bug so the cache wasn't cleared correctly. If all your files are uploaded, you can delete the local2 any time (as long as Wuala is not running). This should have the same effect as clearing the cache in the options, with the difference that clearing the cache doesn't remove files that are not uploaded yet. – Luzius, 1 day ago
Luzius replied 1 day ago to the problem "Linux Connection shuts down after a minute" in Wuala:
Many home routers can't handle larger numbers of connections (say 100). Though Wuala uses UDP, which is a stateless protocol that does not have connections, some routers still treats UDP traffic as if there were connections and then run into problems. We are aware of this problem. Our planned fix is to offer proxy servers for users with connection problems, so Wuala can be used with only one connection, even if UDP isn't supported at all.

sunk818 replied 1 day ago to the question "How do you make your uploads run faster?" in Wuala:
On Bittorrent clients, the recommended upload capacity is 80% of your actual max upload rate. You can test your speed here: http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest - Make sure Wuala is closed and you're not downloading or uploading anything.
For example, if the speed results say your download speed is 1600 Kbps and upload speed 384 Kbps, you want Wuala settings (at a maximum) to be:
Download 160 KB/s (1600 divided by 8, multiplied by 0.8).
Upload 38 KB/s (384 divided by 8, multiplied by 0.8).
