Hm, sounds interesting... so while Wuala doesn't have size limitations (other than Java heap space *cough*) it won't be very intelligent to upload a 200GB file (or a 50GB BluRay iso) since this would result in 2 GB (500MB) fragments that have to be distributed?

I guess this is again because of "performance reasons" but I still don't really agree with that design somehow... I don't really know how it could be done better though (well I have my ideas but I'm sure you guys already had them too...) – Bugreport, on April 15, 2009 19:01

Just click on "Start Wuala" and upload away!

Http-Upload is currently not possible and will most likely never be possible due to the nature Wuala handles (and encrypts!) data. This would severely impact your own security, so it's not a very good idea anyways imho!

Künstliche Beschränkungen wie "nur 5 Anmeldungen/Stunde sonst kommt ne Fehlermeldung" o.ä. sind sicherheitstechnisch übrigens irrelevant, da davon auszugehen ist, dass ein Angreifer im schlimmsten Fall das System umgeht und nur die Algorithmen zählen. Daher zählt im Endeffekt das "Key strengthening" und ein gutes Passwort viel mehr als die Servergebundenheit + Internetlatenz.

Übrigens ist im Moment "Fall 1" aktiv, man wird immer über die Wuala-Server in der Schweiz authentifiziert. Offline habe ich noch nie versucht mich anzumelden, gehe aber davon aus, dass das nicht möglich ist.

Bandwidth is being prioritized according to the G00gle Tech Talk but not transparent to the user. Atm. it's a non issue I guess since not that many people are at the storage cap when sharing so it's not very visible. When 100 people suddenly request though parts from only one storage node, in theory it should(tm) prioritize though and not only do "first come, first served". – Bugreport, on April 07, 2009 02:01

Atm. it's limited at 100GB because the more you trade, the more the Upload-bottleneck comes into play. This should and will be changed, no eta.

Multiple trade locations are also often requested, I guess they'll come when trading (eventually) gets a bit overhauled.

Der Vorteil liegt darin, dass die Fragmente die zu den einzelnen Usern die Speicher freigeben natürlich aus den verschlüsselten Daten berechnet werden und es sonst extra Aufwand bedeuten würde jeweils die ganze Datei zu Verschlüsseln (man braucht die gesamte Datei verschlüsselt um Fragmente zu generieren, aber man kann "happenweise" entschlüsseln, wenn man z.B. streamt)

Das Streamen ist kein "Fake" es müssen immer, bei jeder Art von Stream Daten gepuffert werden. Man kann auch schon während runtergeladen wird auf beliebige Stellen der Datei zugreifen (nach kurzer Pufferzeit natürlich) also ist das schon "echtes" Streaming, nur eben wird der Puffer/Cache nicht sofort geleert, sondern erst wenn er voll ist überschrieben. – Bugreport, on March 31, 2009 16:19
