I asked on #songbird on IRC and the team said that unfortunately that's a problem with the iPod addon, which is no longer supported and is open-sourced. Somebody that has strong addon coding skill is going to have to fix this, the Songbird team won't.

Same issue on Win XP x64, 5th Gen 30GB iPod. Songbird 1.4b3. Is the transcoder 32-bit only? I see that most people reporting problems here are running 64 bit operating systems.

Yeah, it seems to be an issue of writing metadata. Album Art is also suffering from the same problem if I try to get a cover for for an album missing art in MediaFlow.

Yeah, I'm also having this issue on Windows XP x64. It seems to work correctly, but throws that annoying error message a lot.

Hey, try a nightly build of 1.2.x with stevel's experimental Last.fm addon. I think this really solves the issue. It's similar to fire.fm in its intention, but gives you a true GUI almost like last.fm itself. Well...I get the .tar.gz and extract it. Then I cd Desktop/Songbird and run ./songbird, and get "Segmentation Fault" on that too. What's wrong? Is it my system? – bdice1400, on December 09, 2008 22:27

Well it's released as a .deb auto-installer on getdeb.net, but i'm getting segmentation faults now with that. I'm on 8.10 amd64 too.

I recommend a PPA, that's the general standard for third party projects to be installed in Ubuntu.

The getdeb version WAS working for me but it stopped working and is reporting segfaults now...what causes that? I reinstalled from getdeb again and it still won't work...
I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64. The tarball never did anything but complain about jemalloc.so not existing despite the fact that it was in the same directory. :P 1.0 just kinda died. It really did get pushed out the door more than I expected from you guys, you've been doing great stability-wise.

You can get album art addons that will get the covers and set it up properly for you. Just search album art and you'll get the Album Art Manager, along with several cover fetchers, and other goodies.
