Thanks for your feedback, I'd like to get to the bottom of this.
In all of our testing, gmail's "reply" and "reply-to-all" buttons work perfectly for responding to verification messages. gmail correctly uses the verification address in the "Reply-To" header, and not the original address in the "From" header just as all mail user agents are supposed to do. I just now double-checked this by sending a test message to a user at gpwarranty.com from my own gmail account. When I got the confirmation email, I tried every "reply" and "reply to all" button and menu choice I could find, and they all created a reply to the proper verification address.
I am not sure why this went wrong for you, my best guess is: are you using any gmail labs features or any other gmail settings that may change the meaning of the reply button to use the address in the From header? I am not aware of any features or settings that do, but if there is one, we would love to hear about it.
The other possiblity is that you replied by hovering your mouse over the From address (the original address) and clicked on the "Email" button that appeared. But this creates a whole new email to the sender and is not a reply to the message you received so I don't think that's what you're saying you did.
If you are stuck now and want to create the appropriate reply, just click "show details" then copy the verification address and create a new message to that address and send it. Doesn't matter what the contents of the message are.
Hope that helps,
Cameron
