I'm interested in turning off ads on my Welcome page.

I wonder if this would work: (but I will bounce if off the GetSat community before i copy/paste my way to Carpal Tunnel...)

    * remove the ad codes from the 'Ads & Custom HTML'
    * create custom HTML widgets at the top and bottom of every other page (except the Welcome)
    * put the top and bottom ad codes in those, respectively

    Thoughts?
    Thanks

Hi, thanks for the response, Luke.

I can hide it, sure, but I'd just like to turn it off.

It's like a pair of training wheels on my bicycle.

    Disable Admin bar
Hi - Has anyone figured out a way to disable the admin bar from showing while you're logged into your network as an admin?

If there isn't this feature, it might be nice to see it included in the Advanced Options, where you can disable the supplied-css.

    Thanks,
    Rob

    Awesome job, SoGo!
I want to thank everyone at SocialGo for the rapid response to my earlier concerns.
Today's Q&A left me elated. Two big thumbs-up to Alex and Will for their handling of the session.

Can't wait to see the roadmap!

Is anyone else noticing duplicate signups?
I have noticed a substantial increase, and wonder if it's the twitter integration.
There have been a few in the past (maybe 4 or 5), but I notice 3 instances of duplicate accounts in the last week.

    Usability issue with Twitter Connect
    Hi,
This post relates to a usability concern with Twitter Connect.

For a new user signing into a network with Twitter Connect, their account is created without an email address.

    So they receive this message:

Upon clicking the link to verify email address, they see:

But: there is still no valid email associated with the account...

Another "nice to have" would be the ability for the users to choose the language for the interface...

i.e. let each user override the default language dictionary for the network.

This started out as a list of 10 ( I was going to do 5 and 5 in each section... but I went over a bit...)

    Rob's List

    Top Back-End Wishes
1.) Support for a service like RPX.com. 1 widget per sign-on service will start to get pricey
2.) User management: a mass-recycle function, to expunge members who have left and wipe their content.
3.) Email validation for existing members. If their messages are a hard bounce - don't let them login until they update their email.
4.) Auditing and Reporting - easy setup of reports to be viewed or emailed: "new members this week", "members who cancelled this week", etc.
5.) More granular control for members to publically display information on a private network (like facebook) using a vanity URL. i.e. http://network.com/robby will load the framework for the network and perhaps a thumbnail of the user (if selected by the user)
6.) An externally hosted SocialGo-Status page - showing green/red lights for the systems that make up the hosting environment... i.e. webservers all up, but email is back-logged/down, etc.
7.) A development roadmap: including features, target quarters for release. i.e. Chat: Q3-09

    Top Member-Facing Wishes
1.) Familiar chat interface (comet-chat), but also the ability to create/join room-based chat with more than 1 other
2.) More Ajax in interface. Eliminate page refreshes while adding a friend request, or updating status
3.) Allow for selection of displayed users, videos, photos in "featured" blocks, by letting Admins select which items to feature.
4.) Allow individual users to select an RSS feed as their blog source (for those users who have external blogs already)
5.) Allow users (or admins), to rss-enable socialgo-hosted blogs for consumption by external apps (supporting authentication, where required by the setting of the individual network)
6.) Extend the rating system (now available on videos) to photographs, blog entries, etc., and provide a link to the listing of "highest rated blog/video/photo"

Is anyone using CrazyEgg on a login-protected site?
    Hi -

I just subscribed to the CrazyEgg service (crazyegg.com).

My network is not public (so you need to login), and when I asked them about using their service, their support reply follows this message.

    Any ideas / input?

    Thanks
    Rob

You just need to allow our IPs or User Agent access to the pages behind a login, just as "users" of your website would see those pages once they have logged in.

Here is our user agent and IPs:
    CrazyEgg Report UserAgent string:
    "CrazyEgg Robot (+http://crazyegg.com/)"

    IP list:

    208.67.180.252
    208.67.180.228

    ACTION NEEDED BY SOCIALGO
    To the management of SocialGO:

In discussing the platform amongst other SocialGO network operators, we have decided that we must state some concerns.

Primarily, we are concerned with the lack of transparency about upcoming features / releases. Other SaaS companies (salesforce.com, Amazon) let their customers know what is coming in the next releases, and give a relatively firm release date. Additionally, with the departure of Widget Laboratory, we trust that you have staff dedicated to getting the API to version 1.0.

Additionally, we’ll use this posting to consolidate a list of feature requests that have already been mentioned in GetSatisfaction.com/SocialGo:

    • Group chat
    • Multiplayer games
    • Virtual gifts
    • Friend activity feeds (customizable)
    • More AJAX
    • More interoperability (RSS in/out and per-user RSS)

Social Networks have set certain expectations for the user experience. We don’t feel we are able to meet (or exceed) those expectations given the current feature set on SocialGO.

We will be very happy to work hand-in-hand with SocialGO on updates to the platform. However, without upgrades, our networks will continue to slowly die. Once our memberships dwindle too much, we will be forced to migrate our networks to another service.

Ok, well I haven't purchased the widget yet... but I would hope it's more intuitive for existing users of my own site...

Similar setups I've encountered will check the external authentication information against the internal, and offer to link the accounts... that is what I'd like to see.

    Logging in with Twitter
So... is the twitter login for new users only?
what about existing users logging in with their twitter account? I'm an existing user on owners.socialgo.com, and when I tried to sign in with twitter, I got the attached error.
