exception CollectionUploader.cpp(100) hr(0xA0000006)
The best way to handle, in my opinion, is to right click on the "Publishing Synth"l Edit; add 01 or rename; save; synth button again.
At least the upload does not need to happen again and it does seem to process a little faster the second run.
Just until they can work it out.
i sort of feel priviledged to be here during this early phase of the application. I know it can be frustrating but I have some perspective. I started using 286 machines using 2400 Baud modem for 1-to-1 BBS connections. To think that I am using a digital camera, taking 100 snaps in a very quick and amature-ish fashion and be able to create 360 views of objects or complete panoramas is mind blowing.
Believe me - it is an honour to be here so early and be able to send the error logs and codes so these guys can figure this out.

Capo asked a question in Microsoft Live Labs on August 25, 2008 18:29:
Is there a vertical halo?I have been able to see horizontal axis 360 halo - but is there a vertical one? I do not think so and it might be helpful to have. I am able to click and drag "up and down" to change vertical view but maybe another halo for the "y" axis would be nice?
Just a thought

Capo replied on August 25, 2008 02:56 to the discussion "What features should we add to Photosynth?" in Microsoft Live Labs:
I notice that if / when my synth is not 100% it sort of "clumps" together possibly several groups of images that do synth. On occassion there are also "orphan" images that sit at the bottom of the thumbnail view listing all by themselves and they are available as a stand alone slide - maybe these could be auto-discarded with a note telling the user what slide was discarded as it did not match any of the clumps? I find I am usually deleting these individual slides and then re-synthing. Maybe this could be an automated step?

Full 360 view working - with the 360 halo bar and everything!
This is amazing stuff
Capo replied on August 25, 2008 02:06 to the discussion "What to shoot? What makes a good synth?" in Microsoft Live Labs:
I find the following make good synths:
Type A) Panorama
These are 90 - 360 degree synths. I find a static object that you can get shots from at least 3 sides, if not all 4 sides, from at least two different depths and / or angles.
Watertowers, statues, tombstones, monuments, buildings, bridges, Trees, etc.
I am having good results if I take two 360 degree passes - first pass taking distance shots and second pass taking closer shots or zoomed in shots. Take shots at all 4 corner posts as well as in between the corners if you can picture a square around the object. Also intersperse shots that are "to the left" and "to the right" at each of the 4 corners so you capture some overlap. 20% overlap is a nice medium so you get coverage but not too much duplication. If there are any obvious points (window, door, detail, plaque, treeknot, etc) try to get multiple angles and multiple depths of these unique features.
Type B) "Time-Lapse"
Pick a static object to be the focus of your shots. Take loads of pictures of this from 2 or 3 angles and 2 or 3 depths. Always make the static object the focus of your shots. Then try to take them at different times or with different "things" happening around the focus point.
For example a cat scratch post. Same shot, same angles, same depths but with different cats at different times doing different things. The post becomes the synth and the cats / angles / timing make it seem like a time lapsed photo
Hope this helps and gives you some ideas!
Try that antiques store again tomorrow but with different people in the foreground / background / different time of day.
I have gone thru all of my archives and made synths where possible (see my Empire State Building shots; French Prison Guard Statue) but have also gone out on this weekend specifically to take shots (see Murney Tower; Sir John A Statue)

Hey I got one to work!
http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=c...
How I did it:
An "outside" pass at a distance - every 5 paces take a picture without zoom. Every 15 paces take 2 additional shots - left and right of center of last shot for a mini-panoramic
Once full 360 pass was complete I moved for an "inside" pass - very close to the subject with the frame filled. Again every 5 and 15 paces taking the same style shots. I added some "obvious" fills - for example to include the Museum signage an extra wide shot or two.
Cant believe I got one to work - 100% synthy 120/120 shots. Full 360.-

A comment on the idea "Website Enhancements" in Microsoft Live Labs:
Yeah that is my main gripe - no sorting. It would be nice to sort on number of photos, synthyness, date, etc. It is great we can all post up to 20GB of data but it would be better if other people could find these.
Face it - the "popular" page is going to stay the same - top National Geographic 300+ pics with 1000+ viewings. Hard to break into that group. I find the Nice and Synthy a bit hit or miss too as not all of them are 100% synthy. Recently submitted is full of "test" ot "testing" or resumbitted / resynthed work. Without buddies you cant track buddy submissions. No way to track comments / discussions.
And this is the webpage. A lot of this is canned applets / canned code surely somewhere else on the MSN sites the code is in a resuable object somewhere?? – Capo, on August 24, 2008 22:10-

RE: Pets
I have one called "36 Lives of Cats" and also "The Lives of Cats" - 36 lives is of a large scratch post with various pics of the cats on it. Same main object with the cats in different positions / areas. Worked pretty good and it appears time-laspe"ish". The other is of the cats in basically the same position on a futon all mashed up. Worked pretty good too.
I do find however that ones of my dog I thought would be 180 degree rotational turned out to be two separate synch up batches. Hoep this helps.
Capo shared an idea in Microsoft Live Labs on August 24, 2008 18:37:
Website EnhancementsThe webiste has the following ways to locate synthsl:
Home Page Slideshow "Go"
Search
Explore - Recent
Explore - Nice and Synthy
Explore - Popular
Can we see the following enhancements made:
1) SORTING! SORT SORT SORT! Let's hear it for SORT!
Sort your search results, sort your explore hits, sort your profile / others profiles
Sort on Date, # of pics, % of synthy, Rating (I will get to this), views, user
2) Rating System - let logged in viewers rate / rank synths; add this to sorting
3) Profile - Either scrap it or enhance it. A profile is NOT a profile without an avatar. Lets have some details in the profile. Let's make friends / buddy lists. In the profile let me sort / arrange my view / syth order; let me see who / how many comments are on each synth without having to launch. Links to Facebook / My Space / Digg / Flickr / etc
4) Random page button
I want to recommend this app to people but it is not there yet. These web enhancements will make it better for users, easier to find things to view, and bring the website into this era of websites. Seems to be lacking a lot of basic web features.
Should be easier to fix the website than to enhance the program at least.
A comment on the discussion "What features should we add to Photosynth?" in Microsoft Live Labs:
Agree 100% also. Why not just an ordered list that it synths them in that order?
For example I have one called "The Sphere" that is a statue along with the plaque. I wanted the Plaque to be #1 as an intro of sorts then the 4 or 5 pics of the statue as a synth. Instead it is 2 pics, the plaque, 3 more synth pics. Not good. Seems like should be a basic feature. Pic first slide. Pic order of other slides. Pic last slide. Synth. – Capo, on August 24, 2008 16:30
