CaptKirk marked one of Peterh's replies in Sunbelt Software as useful. Peterh replied to the question "What does Active Protection do if "Check files when they are opened or copied" is unchecked?".

Peter, actually this has improved the launching of MSN quite a bit. I had tried allowing just MSN.exe but that made no difference. Allowing the entire folder seems to have worked! Thank you. – CaptKirk, on March 31, 2009 03:04

It's been quite a while now and MSN Premium still takes 30 to 45 seconds to launch with VIPRE installed. Any news on the fix for this? (besides turning off Active Protection)? – CaptKirk, on March 28, 2009 19:41
CaptKirk shared an idea in Sunbelt Software on March 21, 2009 03:39:
VIPRE Points? "We don't need no stinkin' points".Sunbelt, I know this venue isn't a true forum, but I think you've sunk a little low this time. I'm all for promotions, but please don't put them on the GUI. How about this idea? Keep your prices down and your servers and product in optimum performance, and the recommendations will come naturally without any prompting or promotional campaigns.

OK, thanks Mike. I'll keep looking for that icon upgrade too! – CaptKirk, on March 16, 2009 20:09

Thanks. I would appreciate that. I'm actually running VIPRE and SPF together now. Not sure, but I'm also assuming that a version 4.0 would be considered an 'upgrade' which would probably mean more $$$? Years ago in Windows, you could actually easily change the appearance of your icons. Not so today. – CaptKirk, on March 16, 2009 18:58

What's wrong with the one you already have service marked? It's small enough to use in the 'scan with VIPRE' drop down. I think it is the one most recognized. I assume by '4.0' you mean the 'suite'? – CaptKirk, on March 16, 2009 18:24

No, I installed from a clean Acronis backup. – CaptKirk, on March 16, 2009 18:15

I know Sunbelt Support has much more to worry about than what I'm about to ask, and with the threat of you guys telling me to 'get a life', I was wondering if any more thought has gone into the redesign of the tray icon to the original snake image in the shortcut? The icon with just the V seems kind of lame as the icon for the product itself is quite powerful (IMHO). Perception is reality. It doesn't seem to me to be that difficult to do. Or is it? Thanks in advance.
A comment on the question "Firewall was not free!!" in Sunbelt Software:
Hi Nick. Actually, I found your 'clean' uninstall product, spfclean, through following these threads and reinstalled SPF and that did the trick. I know that sometimes recovery programs can cause software to 'count' installs. Trust me. I go through this with Microsoft all the time as I frequently recovery my system as a matter of protocol.
Thank you for your assistance, SPF seems to be fully functional now. – CaptKirk, on March 16, 2009 15:42

I have no other security software installed. Just VIPRE and SPF. – CaptKirk, on March 16, 2009 15:27

I can understand this 'quick fix', but what I don't understand is that you would even suggest to 'dummy down' the product. Sunbelt touts their product to not interfere with computer operations; Sure, great, as long as you trun most of it off? – CaptKirk, on March 15, 2009 19:06-

I will let you know tonight, I'm not home right now. Like I said, I just started noticing MSN launch time was getting longer. I tested this out by uninstalling Vipre and afterwards MSN would load right away. Then I reinstalled Vipre and noticed the 30 second launch time. But note, this will only happen the very first time I launch MSN (from a cold boot) Subsequent launchings act normally. I know I can exclude .exe files but I don't want to do that. I can live with it for now, now that I know what's causing it. – CaptKirk, on March 02, 2009 18:13
