Cassandra replied on December 16, 2009 17:34 to the problem "Can't check in to location...when I am quite literally AT the location" in Gowalla:
I've found this to be a "problem" when I'm in a large commercial type building, where there's lots of metal or even just a lot of "stuff" overhead. Granted, I have no idea what your specific location is like, but I have a sneaking feeling it's a GPS issue as both you and Steve mentioned. Some of my regular checkins have to be made just outside the front door of the location.-

Well I'm certainly sorry you don't feel my response was helpful. I know you asked a similar question yesterday (http://getsatisfaction.com/gowalla/to...) about someone checking in to a lot of places in a short amount of time. You might want to give a little more specifics about what you feel the issue is; Do you think this sort of check in activity should not be allowed in the game mechanics? Do you think this is a bug that needs to be looked into for a specific account or specific location? Is the issue with the push notifications themselves? Otherwise, you may find yourself getting the same sort of answer you received yesterday - that it's just possible there were a lot of check in spots available in a close range. (Edit: Just wanted to add a good luck to getting it all straightened out, the Employees are pretty diligent during the day at checking these issues!) – Cassandra, on December 16, 2009 04:28

Not I! Just a player who has seen a couple of people post similar concerns, and wanted to help clarify if I could. If you hold out a little longer, I'm sure an employee will check in to respond as well! – Cassandra, on December 16, 2009 04:03

Not sure if you are reporting this as a "bug" because someone checked in so quickly, or if you are annoyed by the stream of push notifications.
It's not a "bug" (most likely). It's not required that people actually go INTO a spot they check in at. I know some people that just drive down the streets and check in wherever they can as they pass by places while still in the car! I, personally, don't play like that... but nothing says you can't! I know the Gowalla team wants to leave it open ended for people to play the way that is most fun for them. Maybe Crystal was in an area with a bunch of places all grouped together?
If you are annoyed by the check in notifications, there is an option on the Friends page to remove notifications for a specific individual. If you know this is how Crystal wants to play the game, you might want to turn off notifications for her, so that you don't see so many at once! I know I'd get annoyed by that many too.
Hope this clears up a bit for you!

Cassandra replied on December 15, 2009 17:04 to the problem "A rename!" in Gowalla:
You know, I hadn't even checked the location, I just recognized that the name was incorrect. According to the Kum & Go website, there is no location there. The closest one is about 6-8 miles away (1100 N. Lynn Riggs, Claremore, OK 74017).
I would say the best decision would be delete the spot instead of trying to relocate it such a large distance?

Cassandra replied on December 11, 2009 21:23 to the idea "Add "Check In" to Menu Items at Restaurants" in Gowalla:
Unfortunately, I think it would just be too overwhelming of a task to keep up-to-date. Most of the restaurants I frequent change their menu weekly (and some even daily depending on the ingredient availability and selection that day). I could also see it adding some burden on the app itself, resulting in slower loading times and (maybe) a confusing interface. Definitely a neat idea though, I wonder if there's an app out there that does something similar?
