cbottrill asked a question in iMeasure on March 24, 2009 12:29:
What do you think about the Age of Stupid?Have you seen the Age of Stupid? What did you think?
AOS is a new movie premiering last week. It stars Pete Postlewaite as the narrator & then has the real life stories of about 6-8 people: A french mountaineer in Mont Blanc, a wind engineer in the UK, 2 Iraqi children, a medical student in Nigeria, an oil worker from New Orleans, & an Indian business man setting up the 1st cheap airline. Pete is in 2065 living in an archive of civilisation looking back to 2008 to see what were we thinking - we knew climate change was happening yet did very little to act. http://www.ageofstupid.net/
The film gives lots of room for thought, however, the stories of action, inspiration and the possible for successfully tackling climate change are left undiscussed, which I found frustrating. There is an AOS campaign running outside the film, but what I really want to see is storytelling of climate solutions within a film.

Hi imeasurers,
I hope you received my email about the changes to the site. We are bring back a lot of the same feedback as before, but needed to upload the new versions (with the corrections for how data is stored) so that we can test to make sure feedback is working properly. We will bring back one phase of the feedback for next week & then more the following week. I am sorry the results page is looking a little bare at the moment, but promise it will be back very soon.
All comments very much welcomed!

A comment on the question "I am confused about entering my readings" in iMeasure:
Hi Julian,
The reason the reading input box does not appear on Sunday is because (the weekending) Sunday is 24 hrs. The reading input box will appear 00:01am on a Monday. For a good week to week comparison it is best to be consistent with when you take your reading (e.g. every Monday morning - which is what I do). If you pretty much always take you reading on the same day each week it isn't necessary to specify the reading was taken late or early from the weekending X.

Hi Steve,
Russell, my colleague, and I are definitely interested in pursuing this for imeasure. On the ECI website Russell makes available weekly degree data for 77 UK weather stations - http://www.eci.ox.ac.uk/research/ener.... We just need some additional funding to integrate into imeasure.

cbottrill asked a question in iMeasure on January 27, 2009 15:03:
How do you want results displayed in imeasure? We are doing some work to improve imeasure & would love to hear from our imeasurers about what improvements are most wanted. We don't have much funding - but are aiming to improve the results page - especially the graphs and tables to make the results clearer and more digestible. The glitch in the carbon clubs will be fixed as well as we add a few more features to the carbon clubs so users get more than just a ranking for each of the clubs they are members. Finally, we are doing some much need housekeeping to improve the input of data so people don't run into problems when their meter changes or switches.
Please to post your thoughts on imeasure.
Thank you, Catherine

Hi All,
In the new version of imeasure (to hopefully be ready within the next month) we will be enabling users to specify their own kWh tariff rate for gas and electricity. However, imeasure we still only be giving you an approximation (although a little more accurate), as it is tricky for us to programme in detail the tariff structure you are on (e.g. the first X kWh of the month are at one rate & then the Y kWh above X are at another rate).
Thanks, Catherine

Hi Dave,
I am sorry - our prototype can't do historical data, but we have been working on a new version which I hope will be launched in the first part of 2009 which will give users this flexibility. We created the 2 meter function for users that are all electric as these households typically have an on-peak and off-peak meter.

cbottrill replied on November 20, 2008 02:05 to the question "Are there any plans to add water consumption?" in iMeasure:
Several imeasurers have emailed me to say they think water monitoring would be a great feature of imeasure. This is functionality we would be interested to do, but unfortunately at this time we don't have the development funds to do this :-( Hopefully this is something we can do next year. Thanks, Catherine

cbottrill asked a question in iMeasure on September 02, 2008 19:38:
I am confused about entering my readingsHi imeasurers,
A number of people have emailed at bit confused about entering their weekly readings if after the "weekending date" listed. The weekending date is always the sunday, but because sundays are 24 hrs long the box for entering readings doesn't appear until 12:01 am on the Monday.
We offer the option of specifying the number of days after the week ending date you have taken your readings in order to calculate the last 7 days' (i.e. the last week) energy use. For example, if you took a reading on a monday one week and then your next reading on the following thursday that would be 11 days difference. So if you specified that the second reading was taken 4 days late then imeasure calculates the daily energy use and multiplies by 7 to estimate how much energy you used over 7 days. However, if you always take your readings on a tuesday there is always 7 days between readings so no need to specify it is late.
We took the approach of saying when your next reading was due in hopes it would help the habit of meter reading. However, please don't feel you have to read you meter each week if that is not convenient or the way you want to use imeasure. imeasure will still calculate your energy use between readings.
I hope this clarifies a bit more how imeasure works. We are developing a new version of imeasure in which it will be possible to specify the date you have taken your readings.

BBC BloomHi imeasurers,
In my weekly email reminder I got the web address to BBC Bloom slightly wrong - it is www.bbc.co.uk/bloom.

If you have any problems or errors about imeasure then please email catherine.bottrill@ouce.ox.ac.uk. I will take them onboard.- address errors and incorporate as we make improvements to imeasure.
cbottrill replied on July 02, 2008 10:34 to the question "Calculating average gas use over the year" in iMeasure:
The carbon badge is created using the data of all the imeasure users in the last four weeks with up-to-date profiles. This means the badge is in sink with the seasons. At the moment there are only a relatively small number of users because we have just opened out imeasure therefore the badging is not directly comparable to the national averages. When we tested imeasure with a hundred users last year we did find the badging was able to map to the national averages. We are hoping in the next few months with more users on imeasure the badging will be more solid.
Even though your heating is off you will still have some gas use in the summer for hot water heating.
Thanks for using imeasure, do keep any questions/comments you have coming, Catherine

Hi All,
imeasure is a recently launched home energy management tool - run by the Environmental Change Institute. We are finally on a roll in launching imeasure and getting the word out to people about saving energy at home. We will be here to take questions anybody has about how best to reduce their energy use. Please ask away (we will try to respond as promptly as possible and feel freel to start your own discussion threads. We will also make an effort to post information imeasure users might find interesting.
Thanks for being patient.
