I think there could be a second tier to the placemark process that would hopefully simplify things: When we set a placemark and give it a name *we* use it by (the short-n-sweet name we use to check in via SMS or the web), you could simply add a second "Public Name" field that allows us to name it for everyone else to see.
This Public Name could also be tied to privacy levels, i.e., only "friends" or "everyone" can see the Public Name, but trusted friends can see the actual address. The Public Name could also be sent to third-party services like Twitter, which would solve a privacy issue I just posted another topic about.-

Please apply some kind of privacy control to external servicesI think some attention could be paid to the way locations are shared outside of Brightkite. I really like the privacy levels you allow us to set for Brightkite users, but my entire home address gets sent to Twitter since I have that sharing feature turned on. I don't really want that to happen.
I'd rather stick with only allowing my trusted Brightkite friends to see my home address, and perhaps something like a location alias being sent to Twitter and other external services. So when I SMS that I'm @home, my Brightkite friends can see my full address, but maybe the Twitter message is simply "David's @home."

Yea I don't want to see Brightkite turn into another Dopplr, but I agree that it would be handy to have at least some kind of scheduling system. I just had to drive down to campus for a class, and it would've been nice to simply sign into Brightkite while I was poking on the 'net before I left and set @campus as my location for the next hour two. Instead, I had to get out of my car and stumble through the parking lot as a typed out an (admittedly short) SMS *when* I got to campus.
I can see plenty of other scenarios where some kind of scheduling would be useful, too. One of my groups of friends, for example, finds it pretty offensive to whip one's phone out and goof around with it or send SMS. I would much rather post that I'll be meeting these people at a restaurant or bar ahead of time so I don't have to step on their toes by whipping out my phone when I'm actually there.

Make it easier to find and add locations/placemarksIt's really hard to find and add new locations and placemarks from the web UI. Example: I'm about to go to a Starbucks up the street, so I tried typing "Starbucks" into Brightkite's search box. I even tried "Starbucks Westminster, CO." But your web UI can't find that store unless I do something like go to Google Maps in another tab, find that store manually, then copy and paste its address back into Brightkite.
That's really cumbersome.

Please make it easier to glance at our friends' privacy levelsWhen viewing the "My Friends" list, it would be great to have some UI indications of which friends the user has marked as trusted, as well as what they're allowed to see from our stream.

Please allow us to remove check-insI wish there was a way to delete check-ins. I posted that I'm at home right now with my address and everything, but I'm not sure I want to be that public about where I live. I can't find a way to delete that check-in at all. Am I blind?
