Chelle asked a question in TwitPic on November 04, 2009 16:38:
Twitpic uses header image instead of photo.I use Virgin Mobile and unfortunately they convert photo messages to an HTML format that includes an obnoxious header image, a thumbnail, and a link to the real photo hosted on their servers. So when posting to Twitpic, the header image is what gets posted instead of the actual photo, and the tweet gets overriden by the idiotic HTML e-mail's subject line -- "A PXT For You!". This problem was brought up over a year ago on this site, though, and supposedly a workaround was created for Sprint users. What is the current status of a similar workaround for Virgin or Bell, who have the same problem? Thanks in advance.-

@mdy - I can't seem to reply to you directly, so I'll put it here.
That wouldn't work. In order for it to accept the text, I would need to set up SMS updates from that phone number on the Devices page. Right now when I put in my phone number, it automatically says, "Oh, your number is Canadian! We don't support you anymore. Sorry. :("

Ah, okay. So my terminology is off. Thanks for edjumacatin' me! I do still want to know if it's possible for me to somehow piggyback onto the American traffic in order to send and receive SMS updates, though, even if it will accrue long-distance text-message charges. (More to the point: In my case, it won't, since I have unlimited text messages, both inbound and outbound, to both Canada and the US. It would be the perfect solution if there's a way to do it.) – Chelle, on November 27, 2008 04:23
Chelle marked one of Donovan's replies in Twitter as useful. Donovan replied to the question "how do I reply to someone's tweet". Chelle and 3 other people think it's one of the best replies.

I would also like some more information on when we can expect to see SMS services to Canada again, even if it's as vague as "over the next six months" or "over the next year". I think not providing a concrete ballpark -- regardless of how far off into the future it is and whether or not it gets changed as things develop -- is poor communication and tends to send people into frustration overdrive.
That said, I think your sense of entitlement is a little overblown. This is a free service -- Twitter has been footing the bill in your stead until now, so if the price got too high, I think it's entirely reasonable for them to have shut it down. If you want to start footing the costs yourself instead of insulting them for not paying it out of their own pocket for you, you can check out services like TwitSMS (http://www.twitsms.com.au/twitsms/pub...) and put your money where your mouth is to get your SMS tweets back.
In my case (http://getsatisfaction.com/twitter/to...) I'm specifically hoping I can send to and receive from the US shortcode, since my text message plan is for unlimited texts from both countries. If I can piggyback onto the traffic they're already putting through for American Twitter users at no extra cost to either Twitter or myself, that seems like the best option.

Can Canadians switch to the American shortcode to send/receive?Is there a way for Canadian Twitterers to get their updates to/from the number for another country? In light of having SMS updates to Canadian phones cut off, I would accept sending to and receiving from the US number if I knew how to set that up.
