A comment on the problem "Log in problem: Error 002" in ChessCube:
Hi majidolyaei,
we are working on technology that may fix this problem in the next couple months, with regards to ports. If that is the case, you should all be able to get back on. Of course, IF it is the country (I am still not 100% sure, just a guess from the users posting here), they could then block ChessCube.com entirely!
I am hoping it is NOT the country and that we create a work-around that uses regular interent ports.
We hope to see you back very soon!

Hi Amir, did you talk to your ISP? We cannot help you if your country is blocking us... please ask your internet provider to try to log on to our site and see if they get the error message.

Hi,
After doing some research it looks like many users from Iran are getting this error message. Most users from every other country appear to be able to connect without a problem.
We have NOT blocked Iran in any way so our only guess at this stage is that Iran has somehow blocked you from ChessCube. If you are getting this error message, please respond to this post with your username and country so we can confirm whether it is a country or server problem. If it IS in fact a country problem, we are not sure how to proceed - can you please contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and ask them if they can test the connection to ChessCube? We will still be looking at alternatives to fix this problem, but we cannot obviously unblock ChessCube if a country has blocked us!
Thanks,
Bryan

Hi,
The underlying technology used means that we currently can only allow game play through the ports mentioned in the answer to the original poster's question. Simply put, if those ports are not opened we cannot do anything to help a user to connect to the site. We have replied and reacted to this topic often, and we do care, but there is no solution to the problem at the moment: if those ports are closed we cannot force them open for you. We have not responded to every individual comment on this problem because we cannot say anything more than we already have.... it might get quite boring for you all to read the same reply every time! :)
We are looking into other technologies and ways around this problem and hope to have a better solution in the near-future.
Many companies and possibly ISPs lock down these ports so that users - understandably - cannot play games on their networks. While we investigate alternative technologies, please ask your local or ISP technical support staff if they can open the ports for you. – bryan, on October 28, 2009 21:43

Hi mau3d,
Just to confirm - you are saying you are not using broadband but rather dial-up? (56kb). That is a very slow connection for using a rich internet application like ChessCube. My guess is that there is a "time-out" downloading the swf file you mention, so it fails to download, and you naturally can then not connect any more. This may have been introduced this version - I will ask IT support whether there is a lower time-out threshold this build.
We don't have an open beta build for you to test at the moment.
While I follow-up with IT, if there any way you can test your connection with a higher speed connection? At this stage I don't think it is your computer - just your internet speed.
Thanks,

Hi mau3d,
Is there any chance you can try a different computer? It would be helpful to either isolate the problem to your computer or network, or our network or our code. Many users have been able to successfully connect and play, so we don't think the problem is system wide.
One thing you can do as well, is fully uninstall and reinstall the Flash player - in case this somehow got corrupted.

Have you otherwise locked down your browser security in any way? E.g. disabled cookies, javascript, flash?
Thanks,

You cannot delete your account. Accounts are linked to games played and to various reports (including abuse reports) and we cannot remove your name from these records for technical and administrative reasons.
If you want a different name, please sign up again and get the name you want.
If your concern is having your email address in our system, and you never want to receive mail from us you can disable all mail in two ways: click on the unsubscribe link in any marketing message we send you, or when online, click on your username (top right) >> Settings >> Email Notifications and select to "Unsubscribe from all ChessCube emails"
Additionally, if you no longer want to use your account, you can simply not log on with that account any more.

Hi everyone,
The site is currently unavailable. We are working as quickly as we can to bring it back up.
Please relax, go outside, get some fresh air - there is no reason to be sad, frustrated or confused - and posting repeatedly to this topic will not make the site come back up any quicker. Just have some patience and your favourite chess site will be back up as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Bryan

Believe you or not - as long as the two of you cut down on posting silly responses to every question, then you can be 1 person or 10 people for all I care. Thanks :) – bryan, on June 30, 2009 13:37

The way people usually find out things... by asking... how about asking him if he knows? You two answer each other all the time, so maybe instead of posting every idea in your heads, you could ask each other first. Just a suggestion. – bryan, on June 30, 2009 13:15

Great - you live together - so instead of posting and answering each other's questions, how about just speaking to each other directly? Your explanation makes no sense at all. Even if you two are brothers, you should both stop flooding the forum with nonsense posts. – bryan, on June 30, 2009 09:33

Block nuisance users? How can we ban users who just wants to flood or spam our help site? One of the benefits of hosting your own help forum is you can IP or username ban nuisance or abusive users, what can be done on getsatsifaction?

bryan replied on June 29, 2009 12:46 to the question "Loosing points when draw" in ChessCube:
It is to do with ratings: generally speaking if you draw against someone rated higher than you, you gain points; if you draw against someone rated lower than you, you lose points. This is because you are expected to LOSE to someone rated higher than you (so a draw is better than expectations, and your rating increases), and you are expected to WIN against someone rated lower than you (a draw is worse than you were expected to do, and your rating decreases).
