    Thanks Sam
It seems we are in the same boat. I use Google quite a lot in the mornings for stock market stuff and have found that same symptom, it happens when updating Vipre starts up.
The browser freezes or goes into some incredibly long cycle of some sort making nothing work properly.
If I try to close the browser window IE7, it could take five minutes or more to close then the screen goes dark and the message comes on.
Then there are the times everything totally freezes and nothing except trying to run the Task manager to End Task and restart IE7.
However, that doesn't work all the time either. Black screen doesn't appear instantly upon trying the Task Manager, but it does after a lag period.
The the error message regarding the Login security option failed appears.
I have had to power off to reset everything. This has seemed to be my only out.
I did the complete uninstall. I have the latest up to date drivers for the video card, as that was being accused of having a problem too. It doesn't though.
It all seems to do with this latest update of Vipre.
Before the reinstall I even swapped video cards, taking out the higher quality PCI card and going back to the board integrated graphics set and reinstalling and updating the drivers for that to see if the problem would go away. It didn't.
I thought the dissappearance of the Vipre icon in the system tray after the reinstall was completed was a sign of things to come. Oddly, after the first crash after the complete uninstall/reinstall, where I had to power off again, then the icon reappeared.
Hope they come up with a fix too. I haven't turned Active Protection off to see if that solves any problems. Isn't that one of the reasons I bought the program to have Active protection?

    Hi Sam
Everything you describe has happened to me as well. Even after a complete uninstall, clean out Vipre with the cleanout exe and then full reinstall.
I was thinking it may have something to do with how much memory my machine has and whether it needs headroom. I have an HP with and AMD 2 core processor with 2 gig ram. Running Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
The latest crash was while I was trying to open Google Mail. It was hanging so I clicked stop and retry, It hanged again not doing anything except for spinning the wheel. I decided to start Task Manager, ctrl alt delete, and that simply crashed everything to a dark screen then the message Login security options has failed - somthing like that- and failed security options - or something like that. I powered off, then restarted.
It of course reacted as though it was an unsheduled shutdown and asked to restart in normal or the other modes, I restarted in normal
Since the reinstall of Vipre there was no icon in the system tray on the right bottom corner of the screen. After this last crash it appeared.
I am getting a bit sick of this too. – Chris, on April 05, 2009 02:47

There is no icon in the lower right side system tray as there was before. Only after a scan I see one. – Chris, on April 04, 2009 15:19

It may have corrected the problem, time will tell. However, there is the matter of the Vipre icon not appearing in the lower right side of the screen, "system tray"?, An icon appears after a scan but not during one.

Where is Vipre 3.1 Beta 6 update?
I am getting a service stopped working message in Vista Home Premium. This below is the solution that Windows Problems and Solutions reports back to me. However, it would appear to me by reading the version for my Vipre product, Software version says 3.1.2710
    Current Vipre version says 3.2.2028.2
So why would I get the message to update Vipre 3.1 Beta 6?
