Chris replied on December 08, 2009 20:48 to the question "Assign ownership to a Contact" in AirSet:
My apologies for the delay in getting to your question, Tol.
You have surmised correctly that we allow contact authors edit access to the contacts they create, but unless they have "edit" permission in the contacts application in your Cloud Computer, they will not be able to edit the contacts that you have already created (since you are the owner, not they).
The easiest solution is to grant edit access to all members of the group, by changing their role's default permissions in the Administration dashboard. But if this is undesirable, they must resort to recreating a contact for themselves, to get the ownership you are looking for.
This is a problem we've wanted to solve for awhile, and are in the process of doing so now (in fact I am working on it as we speak) to automatically associate members with their own contacts in each Cloud Computer, with edit rights given to the member for their own contact. That should come out in a release early next year.
Sorry I don't have a better answer, but I hope that helps!
Chris replied on November 25, 2009 17:24 to the question "When will Airset Sync support Palm Desktop v6?" in AirSet:
We don't have any direct experience with MetroPCS, and in my research it was not clear to me whether the carrier blocks non-MetroPCS java apps from accessing the internet (as happens at T-Mobile, Nextel, and most of the Canadian carriers).
It's easy enough to browse your phone to www.airset.com and give it a try, and see if it gets through a sync -- you'll be able to use it for 15 days without needing a subscription, to see how well it works for you. Let us know how it goes!

Chris replied on October 28, 2009 17:45 to the question "Can MAC and Airset be friends?" in AirSet:
We have a large Mac user base (both Mac Safari and Mac Firefox), test regularly with Mac's, and use a lot of Macs in-house. So it is probably a specific problem with her work setup -- perhaps a problem with a proxy, or some kind of domain blocking (to avoid going to web sites not authorized by the company). Presumably the IT person would have considered these, but you never know.
To diagnose the problem, we might need to know more about what the problem is -- is she clicking on the link in the invitation? What does she see in Safari when she does this (specific error, white screen, etc)? I wonder if she has the same problem when she just enters www.airset.com into the Safari address bar, or if the problem is specific to clicking on the invitation link?
Any information is helpful. It sounds frustrating...

Hi, I tried the page you mention, and my player seemed to play the right files, e.g. the first one, or the second one if I selected it, with the various browser combinations I tried -- I'm wondering if there's a problem with a specific media player? Perhaps you can right-click on the player and look for an "About..." menu item that might give some info about what you are using.
My specific results, and test versions:
Go to page, or select 1st item, get: "Now I know that after the last few weeks..."
Select 2nd item, get: "So, if you would open your bibles to Matthew 28"
Select 1st item, then fast forward: get 2nd item

It sounds like the new audio file won't play, and the playlist moves on to the second audio file. I will go try to reproduce the problem, but it might be something peculiar to your situation. If this is a public website, can you pass on the URL (via feedback, if you prefer) so I can run a few tests on it? Thanks...

Chris replied on July 29, 2009 23:51 to the question "Airset expired on my Blackberry Storm." in AirSet:
The Blackberry Storm runs the Java version of AirSet Mobile -- you can pay for it by clicking on the shopping cart icon in the lower right corner of the AirSet web site.
It requires a monthly fee to use (which is also how the GetItNow version of AirSet Mobile works).
Hope that helps -- please write if you have any more questions.
Chris replied on July 21, 2009 15:04 to the problem "Old changes to calendar being repeatedly emailed to me." in AirSet:
Hi Matt,
It's a very odd problem, especially if you don't have an AirSet account -- is it possible for you to forward one of these notification emails to emeryville_feedback@25800.com? That will allow us to look at it and try and determine what the problem is.
Chris replied on July 16, 2009 23:30 to the question "Where are the playback controls on a playlist?" in AirSet:
Hi Summiteer,
We haven't gotten other reports like this one (where none of the controls appear at all), so my guess is that there was some sort of problem with the Windows Media Player plugin in your 3.0.11 installation. Since you have successfully upgraded, it will remain a mystery for now. Glad things are working!
Chris replied on July 01, 2009 01:22 to the question ".Cab file avialable to download airset mobile to Windows ME 6.1 pro?" in AirSet:
Hi, just to clarify: Verizon historically goes out of its way to ensure Java is not available on their phones, presumably to avoid confusion with its BREW offering. Blackberry phones seem to be the main exception. In rare cases Windows phones will work. Unfortunately in your case, the inability to recognize the .jad extension almost always indicates that Java is not supported.
I've seen discussions in the past of third party Java ME solutions for Windows phones, but we have not received reports of a solution that runs AirSet.
Here is a working supported phones link, in case the link above isn't working for readers of this thread...
Chris replied on June 08, 2009 00:25 to the problem "Can't subscribe to an external calendar (that google can)" in AirSet:
Thanks for pointing this out -- I'm able to reproduce the problem as well (we can tell there are two events, but they don't show up on the calendar).
We haven't gotten other reports of calendar subscription problems, so perhaps there is something unusual about the format of this one. I'll pass this on to our calendar expert and have him take a look.
Chris replied on May 29, 2009 20:19 to the problem "Change notification emails even though turned off" in AirSet:
Hi Heidi, sorry about the problem -- I finally figured out how you were getting to this notification settings dialog (via "My Activity Notifications..." in the settings menu in the task bar). It's not one of the common user flows, though I see how you would have come across it.
The reason you're seeing a problem is that the activity notification settings are associated with a specific Web Computer -- we didn't intend to make it available from All Web Computers, although that would be a nice shortcut to turning them all off -- I'll put that on the enhancements list, and make sure others don't stumble upon your problem again.
If you go into a specific Web Computer and repeat the command, you should be fine.
Again, our apologies for the problems.

Chris replied on April 29, 2009 23:19 to the question "Web Publish change headings?" in AirSet:
I'm guessing that you are creating pages that are based off of one of our web page templates, and want to change something about the template.
If that's the case, there is a help entry on the subject of editing web templates that might be useful.
Usually templates provide only limited editing, to avoid confusion -- what can be changed varies from template to template. You also generally have the ability to change templates. Hope that is helpful -- let me know if I misunderstood your problem...
Chris replied on April 29, 2009 16:48 to the question "Any plans for email hosting?" in AirSet:
Great question. More fully rounded mail support (e.g. archiving of emails, etc) is on our roadmap. It's a big undertaking, so we don't know what the timing will be for it. It's not clear whether that ever makes AirSet a full replacement for a user's mail provider, although we won't rule it out.
As for more control over your outgoing emails, you can always use the "Mail" button in the messaging application or Address Book to bring up your native mail application with your Web Computer members (or subgroup members) prepopulated in the To: field, as an alternative to AirSet's email dialog.
Chris replied on April 23, 2009 16:06 to the question "Why can't I get mobile access to AirSet on my Blackberry Storm?" in AirSet:
Aha! That is helpful. I'm not sure why yet, but your Blackberry is trying to access our regular web site, rather than being redirected to our AirSet Mobile download page.
Try manually typing this instead:
www.airset.com/java.jsp
and you should have better luck...
Chris replied on April 23, 2009 15:11 to the question "Why can't I get mobile access to AirSet on my Blackberry Storm?" in AirSet:
We haven't heard of that problem -- it sounds like there's an issue with your browser. Are you able to browse to other pages? What happens if you go to the gmail download site (m.google.com/mail), are you able to download from there?
What exactly is the outdated browser error message you see?
Once you download the application, there are a few quirks about the phone that have to be worked around:
1. There is a folder named "Downloads" which is usually hidden when you get the Storm, but can access by the menu "show all folders."
2. In folder Storm...Options...Advanced Options...Applications, Airset ver 1.08 shows up as an installed application. Make sure it is selected. Under Menu, you have to edit permissions for Connections, Interactions, and User Data.
The default is "Custom" -- if it is set this way, change them all to "Allow" so you will be able to sync your AirSet data.
3. There is no "back" key easily available to AirSet Mobile -- you have to select it from the Blackberry menu, which makes navigation slightly awkward.
On the positive side, the Storm is the one Blackberry that allows more than 64KB of data to be saved to the flash (it allows 256KB).
Chris replied on April 23, 2009 15:08 to the question "Sync "Blackberry Storm" to Airset" in AirSet:
We are investigating possible ways to sync Blackberry's with AirSet, so stay tuned.
In the meantime, the Blackberry Storm does support AirSet Mobile -- try going to www.airset.com and giving it a try!
