Another great tactic is to look at your Google Analytics logs if you use it. Looking at the search phrases people use to get to your site can give you a good indication of what they're looking for. Optimizing for those users (since you have the most data on them) should help for all of your other visitors as well.
For instance, are people reaching your page and sticking around your site when they search for "widget article"? If so, then you may want to move those to the top of the page.
Additionally, if users are getting to your page by searching for "how do I ____", but leave quickly, that may guide you to add how-to content.
Good luck - I also look forward to seeing what others suggest or do on their own site!-

Chris replied on January 26, 2009 19:14 to the question "Invalid sitemap URL, syntax not understood." in Yola:
Hi Kathy,
Submitting a sitemap to a search engine can ensure that more pages of a site get indexed, but usually doesn't affect whether the home page of the site is included in the index.
The issue that you're referring to is known and will be fixed this week. We're trying out a new way to make sure Google knows the location of your sitemap; in some cases, we pointed to the incorrect address.
The issue is not causing a penalty for your site, but isn't necessarily helping either - when our fix goes in, we hope that the sitemaps will help get more pages of SynthaSite sites like yours get indexed.
If you're seeing the error, it means Google has found your site - that's a great sign! If you continue to get more visitors and more links to your site, it will hopefully show up in the index soon. As always, it takes a bit of time for the search engines to update new sites that they find.
Good luck!-

Chris replied on January 16, 2009 00:46 to the question "If i buy my domain do i have to redo all the google stuff like adscan and analyt." in Yola:
Hi HaloLT - to build on Monique's answer, you may have to update some services but you probably won't have to update all of them.
For instance, the Google Webmaster Tools verification code is tied to your domain - you would have to re-verify with Google (this takes about 5 minutes.)
You shouldn't have to update your Google Analytics code - you'll just see traffic from the new domain in your profile instead of the old domain.
I'm not familiar with AdScan so I can't comment - I would check their support documentation.
The benefits of having your own domain will greatly outweigh a little bit of work now - I suggest doing it and wish you the best of luck!

Chris replied on January 15, 2009 20:49 to the question "Do I add new webmasters code to each page to verify new domain?" in Yola:
Hi Marky - the new domain will need to be verified with Google Webmaster Tools (WMT) again. If you add the new domain to your WMT account, it will show up as unverified since it's new.
Google will give you a new verification code for this domain - you don't need to enter that code on every page - you only need to add it to your home page so it only should take a few minutes.
I also wanted to note that we redirected your old subdomain was redirected to your new domain - anyone who follows a link to or types in the address of your old subdomain will be brought immediately to your new address.
Please let us know if you have any issues, and best of luck with your site and new domain!
