Kill the Modal BoxI'd like to copy and paste names- or somehow easily create multiple-reply tweet from people who've responded to my tweet. It's the modal box causing the problem

As Greg had indicated, part of groups is a way to categorize with the cool benefit of being able to socialize around that category. At the minimum, there should be a "thanks" link on the b-mark object as with instances of b-marks in the rest of the site.
As far as the need to come back to the site, can something like FriendFeed's add-to bookmarklet work? The experience reminds me of something like FF3's new PW remember feature; i.e. allowing you to choose _after_ you've seen the page load. That's nice.

I get that you don't want the whole voting/compete thing, but isn't that what cheers/jeers is all about? And I can see where the meter thing is blah... given the experience with Plurk Karma.
Giving Thanks is not anonymous activity, though. When someone Thanks me, I know who it is. I think this would discourage abuse. My intention with the meter was more to show at-a-glace the level of activity in a group. Something akin to entering a new discussion forum and scanning the number of posts/responses and the number of members. If this could be distilled in a quick-read display of some sort it would make understanding the group's activity easier.
Yes, give credit where credit is due. The individual should get the thanks. Thing is, before figuring out how to reflect thanks (to groups, to other individuals, etc.), the Giving Thanks experience needs to thought through more. I wonder about the ratio for how many people who click on bookmarks actually give thanks.

Okay, but that's a whole 'nother region and experience opportunity. That's like the reverse. (Group activity vs. Individual activity) Could work similarly, though.
I think that's a great idea. Todd?
Groups is another area in ma.gnolia that I wonder about. I know some groups are really hot, teeming with discussions, etc. but others seem, eh. Good for another thread.

Thank you for the concisification. ;-)
But yes, easy and flat as possible. FF does a good job of cramming 4 actions into the space just below the object. The light gray makes it less obtrusive to the interface too. Even here though, the "like" feature requires that we come back to FF.
Are you suggesting that as bookmarks are added to groups we're in, we're notified as part of that stream and can act from there?
Chris Pallé replied on September 04, 2008 19:24 to the idea "Make it Easier to Give Thanks" in Gnolia:
Chris, with the super-viral idea, I think there are two separate things your getting at, both with merit, but different. One is before-the-Thanks (and then all folks who shared get a notice, "spreadin' the love"). The other is after the share of a previously Thanked, but it's really just a notice that others have shared and been thankful for it (Hey, Greg thanks for contributing to the group YYY and by the way, here are some other folks who appreciated this link and shared it as well....) I think that's something the "layer bookmarklet" used to do, right?
The problem is the difficulty with which we give Thanks. It requires coming back. Which we don't always do as puts a bit of cognitive load on us. Perhaps there can be a region on our dashboards - or at least the option to have - that indicate bookmarks we recently visited with some social actions attached to them (share with group, give thanks, add to our bookmarks, etc.). This way whenever we log-in, we're prompted to give thanks for all the recent b-marks we've visited and we can just "click down the line."
Thoughts?
A comment on the discussion "Intense Debate VS Disqus" in IntenseDebate:
i disagree about YouTube, but not the usefulness. Unless you yourself are actively posting video, the likelihood of someone posting back via video, seems slim to me. That said, if video dialogue is your things... (as would be the case with my wife who has hard time plowing through text and typing back) I do see it's usefulness. – Chris Pallé, on July 19, 2008 12:13

I do have disqus running right now. chrispalle.com
The thing that would be cool is if say, my browser crashed or I needed to shut down my computer in the middle of writing it and it was saved for when I got back. See, what I'd normally do is copy to a text program, then save the file, then come back, edit, then post it... seems kind of like a waste if I could be saving it in real-time as it's typed. Think Google Docs.

Save Comments Before PostingCan Intense Debate save comments without posting them? Like, I'd like to work on a comment or response, save it, and then come back to it before posting it. It'd work something like a blog post....
