Colleen replied on November 11, 2009 15:04 to the question "IP Adress of my Blog" in Six Apart:
Hi Flavius!
TypePad uses the CNAME method for domain mapping. We have instructions here:
http://help.sixapart.com/tp/us/verify...
If you'd like more help with this, just let us know your TypePad blog's URL and we'd be happy to get you started in a help ticket.

Hi Tara,
I replied to your help ticket with specific info but overall, we'll need to look at adding support for reverse chronological ordering + threading. I'm going to mark this thread as an Idea. If you have any questions, though, please let us know and we'll reply to your ticket. Thanks for your patience.

A comment on the question "replying to comments - email vs comment" in Six Apart:
This isn't a matter of "admitting" anything. We share responses in specific situations. Most of our responses are one-offs that can't really be templated. I know that's minor but I don't want anyone to get the impression that most of what is said by Support is canned, because that isn't the case. – Colleen, on September 07, 2009 16:06
A comment on the question "replying to comments - email vs comment" in Six Apart:
Norma, thank you for a thoughtful reply. I am not going to make any excuses as to why multiple members received the same response from Support, other than that we answer literally hundreds of requests a day and sometimes we share responses among the team so that we can efficiently handle a high number of the same question. We're a small team so we have to find ways to work efficiently, so we can't change that part, but we will work on making sure our responses are more thoughtful and helpful. We're always striving for improvement that way.
We'll have more concrete information about the change and what's happening going forward soon, so I won't speak about that part. I can really only speak on behalf of myself and the Support team in saying we're sorry you felt dismissed, we love our subscribers and would never intentionally want to hurt them on an individual basis. I hope you understand. – Colleen, on September 07, 2009 15:21

Joan, I apologize, I was actually talking to IslandBookworm and not you. We know this change wasn't addressed properly and we're going to make sure that changes like this are handled more elegantly in the future. My apologies again. – Colleen, on September 07, 2009 03:43

Bookworm - I understand what you're saying but to say that we're "young-uns" who don't understand how important blogging can be is just completely unfair. Just among the Support staff, we have invested YEARS of our own time into blogging and we are all EXTREMELY passionate about it. So while you can nitpick about product features you're unhappy with or service issues that you don't like, please do NOT say that we're not passionate about blogging or understand the needs of our subscribers. The entire TypePad team knows exactly how important blogging is and THAT'S why we stand behind our product. – Colleen, on September 07, 2009 03:31-

Colleen replied on August 19, 2009 00:13 to the question "In advanced templates, what code do I use to output an excerpt? And why the odd behavior?" in Six Apart:
Hi Nate!
Although it does seem weird, this is the expected behavior. If the 100 characters cut off right in the middle of an image embed, for instance, that would really look bad! So, the excerpt just includes actual text, and not HTML code. If the post only contains HTML code (like a paragraph tag and then an embed from YouTube, for instance), there's no TEXT for the excerpt to show and therefore, it will be blank.
I hope that makes sense but let me know if not and I'll try to clarify further :)
Have you considered using an extended post instead of an excerpt?
Colleen replied on August 03, 2009 17:19 to the question "Africa blogger needs help!! Why can't I set a post to publish in the future using LiveWriter?" in Six Apart:
Hi Nora!
It doesn't look like scheduling posts works with TypePad and WLW currently.
Can I ask, though - if you're publishing posts all in one session, why you're also scheduling them? Are you trying to set specific date/times? Can you describe what you're trying to achieve there?
It might work better to create the post, publish it and then go back and update to the date/time you want.
Colleen replied on June 22, 2009 20:12 to the question "How do I automatically add profile pics to comments and posts??" in Six Apart:
Hi Amy!
Showing an author icon with each post would require editing the template code, so you would need to be using Advanced Templates. If you are, please let us know and we'll get you started with the code.
TypePad Connect has an option to show an icon with each comment, if the commenter is signed in through their TypePad Profile account.
There's info about getting started with TypePad Connect here:

Colleen replied on June 19, 2009 16:22 to the idea "The lack of flexibility in configuring Typelists remains a real deterrent to using Typepad" in Six Apart:
Hi Graham!
Thank you for sharing your feedback.
There's a feature in Weblogs > Design > Content that will allow you to embed your own code as a widget, without a title or heading. It's in the same list as Widgets in the content selector.
For an actual TypeList, you can hide the title with HTML, as you mentioned, but the heading may adopt some styling, depending on the blog's theme.
The beta is for the redesign of the entire application so we couldn't really leave out features. Everything that is in the classic TypePad application is in the new redesign. I don't think users would want to switch back and forth so they could do things like add TypeLists!
However, you can look forward to features and upgrades really ramping up once we have all of our users on the new design. It was built to be much more flexible so we can add great new things much more quickly. I think you'll enjoy what's in store and may be pleasantly surprised with some improvements we have up our sleeve :)
If you have any further feedback about the redesign, we'd love to hear it!

Colleen replied on June 17, 2009 13:23 to the question "Rotating quote widget... Does it exist?" in Six Apart:
Hi!
A widget like this typically has the content built-in, rather than letting you set the quotes yourself. I'd google "random text generator" or something similar to see if you can find a JavaScript that will do what you want. You'd then add that to your blog with a Notes TypeList:
