I sent you all the files earlier today.
You can trash the .nib in the project then. I understand why you try to do it this way. In a sense, localizers dont have to worry about the layout. On the other hand, they can't do any adjustment either :-\

E-mail to a friend broken in French in 2.3.3b4

I played around with the latest beta (2.3.3b4) and I noticed that if I launch the application in French, the E-mail to a friend command launches Safari, then switches to Mail, but it doesn’t create an e-mail in Mail with the info in the item... It looks like there is something broken there.

I just got the project with all the .strings — but no .nib.
Is that expected?

Jessie, I'll be more than happy to help.
If you have a build with regular .nib (not compiled since they cannot be edited), I can even take care of it and send you back a build with the localization inside.

I saw in the beta release notes that there is a big effort on updating the localizations for the upcoming version 2.3.1.
Great to see that :-)
The current beta still has uneditable compiled .nib though (which is sad) and I also noticed that the fr.lproj simply has no .nib at all, but I guess all that is coming (according to what the release notes imply).

PS: the release notes mention that help would be welcome, but fail to provide an e-mail address or link to use... It's not clear either what languages need help and which are already covered too.

• “2.0 beta translator” from April 2008: 11711

Actually I took a look at the current beta and I see the .nib are compiled — effectively forbidding them to be edited and therefore localized.

I perfectly understand that manpower can be an issue Jessie. I certainly don't think this is the number 1 issue that it needs to be addressed immediately before anything else (like SL support for instance). I sure don't think you need to drop everything to take care of it. It's just that the issues have been around since 2.0...

Actually, over the past months, I've offered to make the corrections myself and send you the corrected localized resources (if you want them) which would imply minimal work to integrate them. I'm familiar with localizations and I've done it on many other apps.
The spirit here is definitively more to help than to whine ;-)

BTW, I didn't reactivate the thread myself. It was reactivated by Flavien, and I simply replied back to the comments.

Sure Jessie I understand, and it's not that much of an issue as far as I am concerned: mostly cosmetic.
The unlocalized strings in the main UI and prefs, as well as the truncated strings in the Preferences are far more invlidating for French-speaking users who do not speak English though...

@Jessie: I don't believe it's an issue anymore (it has been corrected a little while ago), but last I checked, there were multiple other issues with the French localization (eg: cropped sentences in the preferences, etc). I suspect this is the overall issue Flavien is referring to.

@Falvien: I offered help ages ago. I even sent builds that had the localization corrected but the corrections were never integrated and no one really followed up unfortunately...
