Looking at the mobile site in Firefox so I can actually breakdown the images, it'd appear that none exceed 25K or so. That said, some are ~20K while others are 2-7K. They're the same size and quality so I'm not sure what's happening there but when several 25K images have to load the page size does increase to 100-200K...
Here's a larger one: http://m.brightkite.com/images/user/a...
And a smaller one: http://m.brightkite.com/images/user/a...
A comment on the idea "Mobile site suggestions" in Brightkite:
Wow, awesome! Thanks for that. One other thing I forgot to mention is that profile icons are coming down as fairly large images (100K+) and then being re-sized to be tiny. I'd say either generate another version of the image for the mobile site, show the image larger or nix them all together ... the "Friends" page takes a while to load even on EVDO. Just my two cents though... – William Couch, on May 20, 2008 00:55

Ah, that sounds like a reasonable solution. Thanks again for the feedback. – William Couch, on May 19, 2008 15:54

Ah ha. Thanks for clarifying that. Again, a little explanation on those sharing/privacy pages might help a little bit. Either way, thanks for the help! – William Couch, on May 19, 2008 01:37
William Couch shared an idea in Brightkite on May 18, 2008 23:09:
Mobile site suggestionsI know the mobile site's in alpha, but I'd like to see larger spacing between links, and keypad numbers associated with different sections: 0 Home 1 Check in 2 Placemarks 3 What's happening 4 Search 5 Friends 6 Visited Places 7 Messages * Private ... etc.
Also, the label "Private mode" suggests I might toggle my Private mode upon click. Perhaps something like "Edit privacy mode" if it's not going to toggle it on click (which it shouldn't - too easy to do).
William Couch shared an idea in Brightkite on May 18, 2008 22:41:
Disable Twitter posting when checking in at designated placemarksI'd like the option to have check-ins for certain Placemarks not be published to Twitter. People on Twitter don't need to see when I arrive at work then back home, but perhaps when I'm out doing other things, folks on Twitter might be interested to know this.
William Couch shared an idea in Brightkite on May 18, 2008 22:37:
Ability to post to Twitter while in Private ModeI'd like to see the ability to publish notes and photos to Twitter while in private mode. If someone clicks on the link that takes them to the annotated Google Map, that map will display the note or photo at the location specificity level noted in the private settings.
A comment on the problem "Photo not sent to Twitter" in Brightkite:
Ah, this answers my same question. Likewise, I'm not sure that's completely clear in the privacy settings. Perhaps add a notice to the Sharing tab that because you're in Private mode nothing will publish to Twitter. – William Couch, on May 18, 2008 22:29
