crobin asked a question in Constant Contact on February 08, 2009 23:41:
How do I personalize emails with company name of the recipient?I have a list of business prospects and want to include a conditional reference to their company name in the email greeting. I see the "Personalization" option, but this only lets me insert "First Name", "Last Name", "First & Last Name" or "None".
Is there a way to add fields to the Greeting section under Personalization to access more fields of info that I am storing with each email address, with a conditional statement to use default text if that field is null/empty?
Thanks.

Hi Jason,
There are some inbound ICMP L3retriever ping requests being denied by boxes on the local subnet which are classified as medium/denied (even though "Ping/Tracert" and "Other ICMP" packets are both set to permit for Trusted networks under Predefined tab.
I tried a manual update over the weekend (was previously running v4.6.1845) which has resuled in slightly faster networking copying to/from a linux box (Buffalo Terasation) on the same subnet - (it was strange that the auto update checking didn't pick up a newer version was available)
My Component versions are now:
System service: 4.6.1861.0
User interface: 4.6.1861.0
Translations: 4.3.100
Rules: 4.3.225.0
Driver: 4.6.1860
SFE API: 4.6.1861
HIPS Driver: 4.6.1827
Advanced mode.
Are these all the latest packages?
I will now try manually updating the WinXP machine (if it is running v4.6.1845 also) and report back.

Hi Jason, I went through all your suggestions and they don't affect the network speed:
With SPF on, Windows Vista still reports file copy across the network at 5 mb/s, but setting SPF to "Disable Firewall" sees a jump to 10 mb/s when copying from a linux fileserver or Windows XP box also with SPF installed. When disabling SPF on the XP box I then get 20 mb/s.
I already have the subnet defined as trusted - Is there any way to specifically define IP blocks as allowed to punch a hole in the firewall?

SPFW slow/killing file copying across windows network - please helpI have Sunbelt PFW installed on 4 PCs (along with VIPRE) on an internal gigabit switched network and am seeing *very* slow file transfer and file transfers that suddenly drop without warning due to SPFW on the receiving PC treating the file transfer as an attack.
More info:
The PCs are 2 x WinXP SP3, 2 x WinVista32, and they all have the correct "trusted" network properties set up in SPFW.
Copying small files across the network is slow - Windows Explorer in Vista on the host PC reports file copy across the network at 5 mb/sec when SPFW is running, but this jumps to 13 MB/sec when SPFW it is disabled on the recipient PC and 20 mb/sec when disabled on the host PC as well.
Worse than this are the random dropouts - file transfers suddenly drop without warning, seemingly due to SPFW on the recipient PC believing the file transfer to be suspicious network activity.
The log on the recipient PC shows the following "[denied]" activity at the time the network connections are silently dropped:
NETBIOS SMB-DS DCERPC LSASS DsRolerUpgradeDownlevelServer exploit attempt
NETBIOS SMB DCERPC LSASS DsRolerUpgradeDownlevelServer exploit attempt
(I have VIPRE installed with latest updates on all 4 PCs, so would hope this is not actually suspicious activity, but rather SPFW thinking the file transfer is a false positive).
Please advise how to set up the SPFW and VIPRE on all 4 PCs so as to achieve the best functioning internal network - right now these PCs can't talk to each other.
Thanks for your help

Hi Mary Beth, thanks for the reply.
I don't have any non-MS Add-ins running/installed apart from "PDFMOutlook" from Adobe Acrobat (which isn't uninstallable/removeable - the message "The connected state of Office Add-ins registered in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed")
(PS. In Outlook 2007 the menu path for COM Add Ins is "Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins")
Looks like this is an MS bug unrelated to VIPRE though (I only noticed it after installing VIPRE on a clean Vista install):
http://www.paulgro.com/blog/?p=12
However, BOTH Office 2007 & Office 2003 hang when trying to send/receive email via an SSL connection when Email protection is enabled in VIPRE with the correct ports specified - the only way to send/receive email is to disable Email Protection, OR enable it but with "null" (ie. deleted) port addresses in the "Advanced" screen.

VIPRE & Outlook - Outlook now reports sending one more mail than I really am!I am running VIPRE and SBPF with Outlook 2007 - every time I send an email, Outlook reports "Sending message X of Y"with Y being one more than the number of emails I have written.
For example if there are 2 emails waiting to be sent, Outlook status will show "Sending message 2 of 3".
I have uninstalled Outlook and the status messages go back to normal... Any ideas?
One of my email accounts operates via SSL (sending/receiving) so I have unchecked email protection (Outlook would hang otherwise, even though I specified the ports both sending & receiving ran on. I have seen the "tip" about blanking out the port numbers in VIPRE but haven't tried this yet).

Problems with SPF & wireless network adapterI have a Lenovo laptop, Series 3000 C100, Model 0761-3HG with XP Pro SP3.
I was previously running Norton Internet Security 2008 alongside Counterspy (latest release) but seeing as my Norton subscription was coming to an end (and I read such good things about VIPRE), I bought an unlimited home license for both VIPRE and SPF.
HOWEVER, SPF does not seem to play well at all with the wireless adapter on my Lenovo laptop (Driver: Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver Version 4.10.47.2).
With wi-fi already on and working fine, installing SPF on the laptop reboots with no internet connection - the radio is on, the adapter is enabled, but it cannot find a network. I even added the network manually (choosing the Broadcom Wireless adapter) by IP & netmask - but nothing.
If I select "Repair", or try to disable the adapter (or anything else to do with the adapter, like uninstall from Device Manager), the machine locks up.
However if I uninstall SPF, my wifi connection magically comes back.
If I then disable the wireless adapter and turn off the wifi radio, THEN install SPF, I get a dialog box asking me if this is a trusted network - I click "yes", and get my wifi connection back (hurrah!).
However it's a short-lived victory - when I reboot, I have nothing again.
Each time I install I'm using the "Advanced" setting.
I have lost most of my weekend messing around trying to get this to work - am close to giving up... Currently waiting for an XP System Restore point to restore and thought I'd give this forum another go.
PS. Is it right that VIPRE uses 60-80% CPU when running a scan? It seems to do this across the PCs I have installed it on at home so far - Vista Ultimate 32bit, Win XP Pro SP2...
Thanks for any help,
Chris
crobin replied on September 06, 2008 10:55 to the question "Sunbelt Personal Firewall - cannot browse local workgroup." in Sunbelt Software:
I'll answer my question :)
There were 3 PCs on the network - two were set up in "Advanced" mode, the other was in the default mode. All 3 had the network tmask set correctly as trusted, but the workgroup wasn't visible on any of the PCs.
I had to change the firewall settings for the PC set in default mode to change "any other application" in Trusted Area from "In > deny" (default) to "In > ask".
Then the workgroup magically was accessible again... (This PC must have been the Browser Master..?)
