crystal posted an update in Twitter on December 17, 2008 23:23:
Decrease in followers: suspended accounts removed from followers pagesGood news for people everywhere!
A long awaited bug fix is going out this week: suspended accounts are being removed from everyone's "followers" pages.
Expect to see an extreme drop in followers numbers in many cases, as we've suspended thousands of accounts for spam over the past few months. Your followers number will now accurately reflect the number of legitimate followers you have on Twitter.
Thanks to @stopthespam and everyone who has followed Twitter's @spam account and direct messaged us with names of spammers. With your help, we're making improvements toward keeping Twitter spam-free!

I've read through the thread and I see a lot of problem reports and "me too" reports, but not a lot of confirmed Twitter user names, which we need to research. If you guys could list your user names when reporting a problem, that would speed things up.
I've found information for the following people, if these are in fact your Twitter user names:
* haikubirdie
* tevi
* anticlimatic
* dveldh
* yoitsing
* knabino
If you haven't already, please include your user name by commenting on this update. Also, if you know, tell us if it seems like you're missing updates from
(a) only people who aren't following you, or
(b) from everyone, regardless of follow state.
If you've filed a support ticket, feel free to update it as well or instead, in the spirit of fast fixing and avoiding multiple tickets or threads :)
Thanks,
Crystal

@haikubirdie, found your info by user name. @magtime and @will, if you haven't already, please submit twitter user names to support@twitter.com or here:
http://twitter.com/help
without that information, I can't research your individual account. Thanks!

What is your Twitter user name, or your 6 digit req #? I looked for clevercommute but didn't find anything. – crystal, on December 17, 2008 19:09

Unfortunately, when I use the feature that posts a reply at the top of the thread, that text appears automatically. We're aware that the problem is not solved, and we're working on it. – crystal, on December 17, 2008 19:07

Hi guys, thanks for being patient while we look into the SMS problems.
As you may notice in various threads and Twitter's status blog:
http://status.twitter.com
we've been dealing with intermittent SMS problems over various carriers for the last few weeks, and we're trying to work with the carriers to figure out what's going wrong.
At this time we believe that the problem is occurring on the carrier side, as we're showing no errors with delivery on Twitter. Please be patient with us while we try to work things out with them.
Please keep in mind that we are researching this issue and actively working toward a fix. If you've submitted a support request, thank you!
If you're having this problem and you haven't submitted a support request, please do:
http://twitter.com/help
It helps us if you include details, such as your Twitter user name, phone number, and carrier information, so we can find and research your individual account.
We are compiling all of the information and working with our SMS provider daily; we will post another update when we have more definitive news.
Thanks,
Crystal

Since inactive user name requests are such a popular thing, they now have their own address. I don't check this thread everyday, but judging by my replies tab, this is a popular request. Going forward, if you want to acquire an inactive user name, please send a request to:
username@twitter.com
It may take 3-5 days for you to get a response, since inactive user name requests come behind problem requests and bug reports in terms of priority, but we'll have someone looking at these daily. In your request, please include the following information:
*The user name you want
*Your existing user name, if you have one
*If you want to change your user name, or start a new account with the user name you're requesting.
Please note: Twitter Support will change your user name for you at the time of responding to the request so that the user name doesn't get taken by someone else. We will notify you by email when this happens.
Thanks!
Crystal

Hi,
Non-parody impersonation is against the Twitter Terms of Service:
http://twitter.com/terms
The standard for defining parody is, "Would a reasonable person be
aware that it's a joke."
Individuals who feel they're being impersonated should submit a request to our Support team, including their user name, the user name of the person impersonating them, and a short description of the problem, here:

crystal replied on December 13, 2008 19:07 to the problem "Ban these users spreading illegal cracked software" in Twitter:
Hi,
Thanks for the heads up. Twitter does comprehensive checks for links to phishing, malware, and/or other harmful sites to prevent their distribution. In most cases, copyright excepted, if an account has posted a link to illegal or harmful material, it is auto-detected and removed.
If you've discovered bad or harmful links, please submit a report by doing the following:
1. Visit https://twitter.com/spam and follow the profile
2. Send a direct message to @spam reporting the account for investigation
3. Send a request to support@twitter.com with the links to the status updates containing the bad links.
Copyright complaints should be in DMCA format and submitted to copyright@twitter.com.
Thanks!
