csaetre asked a question in Google on July 16, 2008 13:34:
Trondheim Norway, university and Google Norway headquarters absent from satellite imageryA fan of google maps and APIs, I have been waiting patiently for about a year and a half for satellite images of downtown Trondheim Norway to become available (Trondheim is the 3rd largest city in Norway). Outlying areas of the city have good maps, but the downtown and university areas are lacking. There seems to be some cooperation between Google Norway and Oslo, but nothing is happening in Trondheim, headquarters to Google Norway.
Map help says "information is added as it becomes available from our data providers". In Norwegian it states that: the data is delivered by NAVTEQ and TeleAtlas. Satellte images are from DigitalGlobe and MDA Federal. I am certain the imagery exists, and is available. Norkart and Trondheim Kommune have it.
Those areas of the city most interesting to visitors and tourists don't have the same detail of satellite imagery as the outying areas. This is both inconvenient and a detriment to the business community downtown. Most hotels can't be seen. Neither can the cathedral. The main campus of NTNU (Gløshaugen) with thousands of students and visitors is absent. A newspaper article was written months ago, and I waited patiently for a change. But no. (1) So how do we influence the imagery providers or Google Norway? (2) Is it just a question of Google Norway applying to Norkart for the data? (3) Is Norkart AS unwilling to share ?

Loosing the "not found" - a click marks the spotPROBLEM: The search by address lookup, as it is now, is too unreliable and many an address returns "location not found"--frustrating this user and turning off many other less determined (I would imagine).
SOLUTION: One could resolve this issue by eliminating a sole reliance on the address/location database by allowing users to either: (1) right click a location on the map view (like the pushpin in many map applications) to create placemarks that can be reused and or (2) allowing for latitude and longtidude lookup.
