Ray replied on July 15, 2009 16:17 to the question "VOD and JW Player" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Ok. Now I'm here!!!
So Nathan, its definitely possible to build an xml playlist by modifying the code in my other post. I'll take a look at JW players documentation and get back to you. I'm getting married in 10 days, so I wouldn't hold your breath on this one, but after the 25th feel free to poke me along.
I'll just tell you kinda what i'm working on as well. I am currently using JW player, and i feel it works great. I really like the idea of putting 'adds' or psas into our online content. I however don't like paying licensing fees... so I am actually switching my system over to flowplayer. I found that flowplayer was a lot easier to do the stuff I wanted with simple javascripting then JW player. Maybe they just have better documentation.. who knows.
Here is an example of what I'm developing for my station:
http://www.ctn5.org/raytest/flowplaye...
This has the forced preroll add. I could also do a midroll or postroll add very easily.
The current file currently cant jump (haven't injected the meta data) but I've tested it and it does work on other files.
The pop up that shows was put there to let me test google analytics integration. So whats really nice is I have very accurate meta data of how often these videos are being watched, how much of the programs they are watching, and what points in meetings people are jumping to most often.
Keep in mind though that I'm not using TRMS VOD server. This is all a homebrewed solution.
Probably not for the faint of heart to develop, but I really like the control and flexability I have.
This is definitely where PEG is headed I think. In the past six weeks we have delivered 3700 VOD shows. Thats an average of 88 show views a day. Definitely not youtube, but still pretty impressive given its very local, usually not that exciting content.

Sarah,
Also try defragging your E: (Content) drive. If your files get to fragmented, it can cause stuttered playback.
There was a post from chad about it here:

Ray replied on May 16, 2009 11:41 to the question "how do I play mpg4?" in Tightrope Media Systems:
I'm assuming your using an SX line of servers.
Have you setup your devices? And created formats for them?
You'll get that error for a few reasons.
1) Your trying to play to many things off a video server, for example trying to play three videos at once off a 2 channel player
2) You don't have your formats / devices configured properly
Is this a new install. Can you get anything scheduled to play off the servers?
Have you looked at the SX setup guide? Setting up devices and formats is covered there.

There is also more in depth knowledge in the users manual.

Post any more questions if you need help.

Ray replied on May 16, 2009 11:35 to the question "how do you set up bins" in Tightrope Media Systems:
There is only one 'bin' per user. The bin is sort of a way to keep track of a short list of shows.
For example I use the bin when I create shows. When I create a new show I add it to the bin. Then when I schedule a show I remove it from the bin. This way I can keep track of which shows I have ingested, but not yet scheduled.
If your looking for a more permanent bucket for shows you could use projects.
To setup a new project click Shows from the main menu and then choose the Projects tab. Choose New Project and enter in a project title and a description.
Now when creating a show record, just choose Link Project when entering the shows meta data.
You can use the projects to podcast, as well as to search for shows during scheduling.
I use projects to organize all my series programming.
Hope this helps.

Ray replied on May 15, 2009 13:00 to the question "Setting up Devices and having trouble" in Tightrope Media Systems:
The USB Serial Hub should get connected to your SX2, as I'm imagining that is what is running Cablecast.
How you hookup the devices depends on the devices. If they are serial controlled you would connect them through the serial hub.
Some professional decks are controlled this way, and I bet your routing switcher is too.
If your trying to control consumer decks, dvd players, etc... you probably need an IR controller. I believe tightrope sells one? But these devices are normally connected to the cablecast via serial, so it would be connected to your serial hub.
Your VOD server, and most other digital video servers are controlled over the network. So as long as they are on the same ethernet network as your cablecast machine you should be all good.
Have you tried reading the manual as well?

Ray replied on May 08, 2009 11:46 to the question "How can I make my RSS look like my Graphics dept wants it w/in Carousel?" in Tightrope Media Systems:
If I get your question, you need to edit the template for your RSS bulletin.
Here is a training video for the template editor:

Ray replied on March 11, 2009 15:55 to the question "Wordpress, Websites, RSS and Cablecast" in Tightrope Media Systems:
RSS works great, but you would still need to parse the feed somehow to get it to do what you want. There may be some plugins for wordpress that would allow you to do this, I'm not sure.
I donated some code to the local education channel to use with there wordpress / cablecast integration.
http://tv3.portlandschools.org
I'm not to familiar with word press, but I think you could ether edit the template files to do what you wish, or get the php-exec plugin which would allow you to paste the code right into one of your pages.
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/e...
If you want, drop me an email with the specifics of your cablecast install (URL and channel ID) and I will tweak the code I sent them for your channel. I can also send you the code that I helped Kingdom Access TV with:
http://www.katv.org
which does the showing the next three channels thing your looking for.

Ray replied on February 18, 2009 15:01 to the question "SX swapping (sounds kind of kinky :o))" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Randy,
I don't believe you can select a video output based on channel, but you can assign devices to shows.
Go to the show record and click on the shows media link (near the reel length and cue time).
A pop up window will appear, change the Preassign Device from auto to the SX output of choice.

mpeg streamclip works the best for me.
http://www.squared5.com/
Opens DVDs MPEG files, VOB, and much more.
Once you have the file open, go to File -> Convert to MPEG2 with MP2 Audio
I've never had a problem.

Ray replied on February 16, 2009 15:08 to the discussion "API for tightrope software" in Tightrope Media Systems:
If you want a customized front end your only real option is to hack the database. I used the word 'hack' on purpose because of its negative connotation in the minds of most people. You should realize if you take it in to your own hands to start messing with cablecasts database, you have ventured into uncharted waters and will be unable to get support from tightrope.
That said, the cablecast machines use Microsoft SQL Server. Its fairly straightforward to start accessing the database. You would need to setup the cablecasts SQL server to allow incoming tcp/ip connections, as well as sql authentication.
The cablecast database layout is pretty easy to reverse engineer, but keep in mind that updates may change the layout of the database. So if you do make this custom front end, be very cautious when doing upgrades.
