Gabrielle I HAVE FINALLY FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM.
Some Ning templates have the issuee and some dont...switching to a different template and the error message disappears...so far by trying 4 templates, it looks like it 50/50 the most simple templates dont seem to have the problem- the more fancy ones do.
Your fix of updating to IE8 works fine for you, but don't forget 90% of the world is using IE7 still, and all those users wil experience the issue when they go to their page on your site.
That's what really gripes me about Ning-All these updates are to make our sites faster...yet they wiped out many of them with this update AND THEY REFUSE TO ANSWER OR FIX IT...Hell i doubt they have even figured out the problem is with templates! They are to busy devising ways to make money charging our members a buck 50 to send a pic of a smiling mouse to other members.
It;s really nuts, I actually think they are all on dope.

Yes..it seems Get Satisfaction didnt last long for Ning..this has been the 3rd new forum in the last 6 months...each time a forum is made it fills with complaints against Ning...so Ning makes another...only on the newest all comments have to be approved and even NCs have to be approved before posting!
It's all part of the new 'Communist Ning" to control information and mislead the public.
Strange, "Ning" is supposed to mean "Welcome" or "hello" in Chinese..and China blocks ALL ning sites from their country...can't even view a Ning site in China....ThIs whole Ning social network platform is one big scam

Thanks for the link Steve...was interesting reading and speculation...I couldn't help but notice FB is charging a buck for the 'Gift" while Ning is rolling it out at $1.50...here is the deal though...My site is not facebook-its not a kids site and it does not markets to kids with daddys credit card-in fact my social network is nothing like facebook at all-so for me to "Market" these gifts to my users would make me look like a fool. You see, as "grownups" some of us find spending money for absolutely nothing to be nuts in this economic environment.
This should be an APP, similar to the app on Myspace, where you buy your friends and earn the points to do it by logging into the site...It should be free...and it should be a 'GIFT" to NCs to improve traffic to their sites.
I am sure there are ning sites that could profit with this, so I am not knocking it for everyone-it's just not right for my site and the fact that ning wants half is kinda...well...dirty... Kinda makes me wonder whats next...is ning going to start serving up their own version of Google Ads? Hey... that's not a bad idea

Well, you and I don't usually see eye to eye on stuff...But we do on this. I made my thoughts known in a post elsewhere, but now that I have found your post, I think its more fitting that i share them here-I also like your idea on charging for photo uploads when members get crazy with it.-we need some way to discourage that...Nice post-here are my thoughts to Ning;
Ok Ning- I like the Gifts idea...like on Myspace...but the idea of selling them to me is just really cheap, cheezy and sucks. I am removing the gifts feature for now-I hope you make it better.
Here is what i would like to see
1-I would like members to earn points for logging in-and contributing something (Not Have to purchase them with cash)
2-I would dump all the gifts that are in the store right now and create a simple set of my own, more fitting to my site.I see that this option is available now-so I would just like for the 'gifts" thing to be free to members, and they earn points for gifts by logging in...
Ning, you got close on this 1 in my books-but you blew it when you tried to monitize it-to me, your revenue should come from creating the best platform with the best features, then you would get more creators and more cash...Please don't try to put a profit in your own pockets by charging OUR members
Keep trying guys-if you ever get in the frame of mind that makes you say
'What can we do to help our NCs" for the sake of the NC and not Ning, "
then you will be on the same page as us.
"We" should be the ones to profit from our members, and Ning should profit from providing the platform to us..(even if you have to charge us a little more for some extras.
Heck Ning, I am paying out maybe 3 times what i pay you each month to 3rd party Apps, Widgets,Chatrooms, contact form, etc each month, that I could happily pay to you guys if you would integrate them.
In my opinion, you guys leave a lot of money on the table that could be yours, all the while you chase some of this korny stuff.
All in all, you guys are improving-and I see you trying to do better, hats off to you-just get a better feel for what we" The NCS" want before you create.
Just my opinion, thanks for letting me share it

Curtis Hagen replied on October 21, 2009 03:39 to the problem "speed issues" in Jisbar:
I have found that if I move a bunch of the javascripts that are in my google box out of there and into the right side column on my site they work fine and everything seems to load faster.
For instance, I dont use google for stats, i use 'Statcounter" and i add the javascript in the right side column-it works fine...
I also have a spellchecker service that uses javascript-I was running it in the google box, but have moved it to the right side column...
Get satisfaction, and other scripts that were in the google analytics box I have moved to the right side...all seems to work fine and I run the entire right side from a single text box.
I have a premium account so I have removed google ads,-quick ad, and all other stuuf that might slow things down.
I know I have shattered nings 4 second rule-and my site does take to long to load, but its not the bar...its all the page content.
I have a theory that on social sites with good content, people will stick around for the stuff to load...if its a bunch of advertisements, they wont.
So far, so good-Im a jisbar user for life.
Vince has just laid out the basic stuff until recently-and with just the basics it the coolest thing thats happened to websites IMO...now with the 'Peel Ad" and other stuff coming out...it's really exciting to watch and learn

I am adding a jobs board to my site and need to embed it in an IFrame...the area of a new page is just 2 colums, but still I need to remove the right column ,BUT just on this specific page..I have been at the puter 8 hrs now searching for this,I have tried a few tweaks that I found in forums that didnt work..I am very frustrated as I am sure most of you have felt...anyone have a solution for this problem? If so, please post it in a way that an ordinary person can copy and paste to their page. Thanks!" in Ning:
The only way I have found is with Joomla Extender form www.sitesuites.com
It does this and comes with a ton of other stuff, business directory, store, classified ads, games, etc...but its a subscription thing...still I find it well worth the money. Takes some practice and playing to understand how Joomla works, but even without any experience I have the basics sown that let me add all the programs I want.
This is the only way I have found to remove the 3rd column on a page
Curtis Hagen replied on September 30, 2009 09:34 to the problem "Ning- Stop stealing my members or allow me to export my ENTIRE site" in Ning:
What Happens When Ning Advertises To My Members
Here is a perfect example of what many of us are upset about.
I pay to have the Ning name removed from my site. I don't want my members to start competing sites against me, so I pay extra monthly for this.
Recently I had to ban a member for repeatedly posting dirty pics, and filthy language as well as filthy songs, finally after a month of editing his stuff and warning him- I had to ban him.
The very next day he had a Ning free site started-emailing members of my site whose addresses he obtianed before getting banned. The site is all about bashin me and my site with filthy blogs and language cussing me etc..the site is actually a real joke and would be funny.. EXCEPT I have paid Ning from the start to remove the Ning label from my site, still it shows on log in,etc, you guys know all the places it gets snuck in...anyways, here is the site- I have reported it to Ning as I thought the days of sites like this were over.
Still the site is on..have a look at the blogs, etc..
http://rigdawgs.ning.com/profiles/blo...
Still wondering why Ning would allow their name on a site like this and why i have paid all the fees, only to have this guy get his site through Ning promoting to my members...
Some of their videos
http://rigdawgs.ning.com/video/412433...
and some of their pictures
http://rigdawgs.ning.com/photo/pictur...
Anyways, i know Ning will not stop trying to profit off our efforts, even when we pay them not to, but i just wanted to vent about how thier practices effect our sites.
Thanks
