A comment on the problem "iPhone camera roll & file names > IMG_10000" in Apple:
I used PhoneView [paid desktop app] to copy the files from my iPhone to my Mac. Deleted the copy on the phone, renamed the files, and then coppied them back to the phone. You'll need to open up a terminal window and run a command to show hidden files. Forget the command right now, but it can be googled. – d3bruts1d, on August 15, 2009 23:13
d3bruts1d reported a problem in Apple on August 07, 2009 02:45:
iPhone camera roll & file names > IMG_10000Just encountered a very odd issue with my wife's iPhone 3G (v3.0.1). She could take pictures with the camera, but they would not show up in the camera roll. The photo albums list correctly showed the number of photos (217), however inside the camera roll album it would only show 200. Using iPhoto '08, we could successfully pull down all of the images from the phone.
After a while (and some trial and error) I found that other users are also having similar issues. Apparently, the iPhone does not like having photos where the file name is greater than IMG_10000.jpg. After renaming a dozen files, including the thumbnail and associated files located in the .MISC directory of the iPhone everything began working again.
I'd suggest Apple change the algorithm so when the iPhone creates new folders inside the DCIM that it resets the counter on the file names. Of course, photo and editing apps may be a major factor.
For anyone else that runs into this issue, I used a [paid] desktop app called 'PhoneView' to copy files between the iPhone and my Mac.

I still think my original comments on this whole situation would not only be easy to do, but also solve everyone's concerns.

Thanks for the heads up Robert, unfortunately most of those products only support Windows. – d3bruts1d, on January 19, 2009 11:03

Storage Space: Picasa Web & GmailI have a hard time understanding the logic used by Google when they decided to give GMail users >7G of email space, and Picasa Web users only 1G.
My calculations show that the average size of email ~30K, and the average size of photo ~3M. - Size may vary depending on usage. - Currently, I'm using 5% of my space on GMail, and 30% on Picasa web (just removed a bunch of stuff).
I think it's silly to see so much space gone to waste. Why not combine the storage for GMail, Picasa, GDocs, and even GDrive/platypus (if you ever release it) into a single storage group? Start off with x "unified storage space" and then offer upgrades, like you currently do for Picasa that way you don't lose that avenue for revenue.
Make it part of the Infinity+1 campaign.

Smart FriendsJust thought of something... many of my friends are on different networks, and due to name availability they don't use the same name from service to service. For example, my wife on Plurk uses @celtica whereas on Twitter she is @celticaflm.
It'd be nice if we could set up "smart friends" (or something) so when I send a message through ping, it'd replace the @name with the appropriate name for that service. For services where a name isn't defined, then just use that from the message.

ViewMyMessage.com Sucks. A few things that could make it better.ViewMyMessage.com is an unfortunately necessary service for iPhone users (and others IIRC). I understand that, but I don't like it... and until something better comes along, here are some simple suggestions to make it better.
1) You send me a text message with an ID and password. You then expect me to remember both when I switch back to my web browser. Ha! Can you not simple probide a link that has both items imbedded into it, so I can just click the link and view my message?
2) Allow us to save the image that was sent to us. Really now, what kind of crap is this where I cannot even download/save the image that was sent to me? Sure, I can open up mspaint (or something) copy and paste the whole thing and then crop out my item.
3) Allow users to set it up so that anything sent to us just gets forwarded on to an email address instead. This way we don't even have to mess with View My Message.com
