A comment on the idea "support local media" in Spotify:
I would say forget about your pre-coneived notion of what "you are building" and focus on the customer.
A vast majority of your customers already have a music library.
Your differentiator from seeqpod/lala et al is that you can replace itunes/winamp.
But, it is awesome.. – ashot, on November 11, 2008 05:04

Cheese90's reply to "This track is currently not available" was just promoted to the most useful! ashot and 3 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Currently Spotify are updating their catalog from the "Beta testing catalog" to the new catalog they received only recently when managing to get their deal with the record companies. Thus some of the old "tags" that link our "song titles" to the songs in the server are lost, because they are updated. Spotify is actually expanding, but you do need to "search" for the replacements, as they have new "tags".
However, I did notice that they have a function to replace "broken" songs. If you double click a dead link, a "tab" will pop up on the top of Spotify, saying that the link is "dead", but that they can try to find "replacements" for you. However, this system has not proved itself to efficient, but it does work in some cases. It managed to replace just about over half of my "dead" links when I did it, but MANY songs it did not replace I found the exact same name and artist, so I would think that system should be rechecked. But it might have something to do with the "tags", that they cannot cross-reference since the tag system is different in the update.
But if that system cannot replace your songs, try doing a manual search for them.-

Global HotKeysSpotify needs global hotkeys (play/pause/seek/switch songs). I need a way to control the app without switching to it

support local mediaI would like spotify to support organization / playback of my local mp3 collection.
Everyone already has a library, not all music is in Spotify.
Noone wants to have to use two music apps.
ashot replied on July 09, 2007 20:36 to the question "isn't pownce dead on arrival?" in Pownce:
well I was refering to facebook, which is pretty much a supeset of pownce. I think facebook will slowly take over myspace over time. The difference between shopping carts and social networking are the network effects. Shopping carts value does not depend on my friends using it. All my friends are already on facebook and this will only become more and more so for more and more people as time goes on. It can succeed on a small scale as another social network for people who don't really know each other in real life (I suppose it already has).
ashot asked a question in Pownce on July 08, 2007 02:50:
isn't pownce dead on arrival?Am I crazy or what? Not a troll, but seriously whats the point?
All my friends are already 'sharing things' with their friends on a certain website which I won't name (where I is every person in the US young enough to want to share things online with their friends).
