calfaile reported a problem in Manhattan Portage on April 22, 2009 03:24:
What's the warranty on Manhattan Portage bags?I bought a manhattan portage bag a few years ago. Unfortunately, the lining in the back pocket has separated from the rest of the bag and I'm worried about the problem getting worse.
1) Can I get this fixed under warranty?
2) I can't find the receipt. Will this be a problem?
3) I'm in Canada. Can I mail the bag to you? Alternatively, can I get it fixed the next time I'm in New York? How long would it take?
Apart from this problem, it's a great bag. I'd hate to have to replace it. I don't know what kind of bag it is, It's like a west side bag but with fewer pockets. I bought it in the brick and mortar store.

Biking with a cargo tote? What's the best way to bike with the cargo tote? I'd like to use it as a beach bag, but the shoulder strap doesn't get short enough to prevent the bag from scraping on the tires (I'm pretty short). Any ideas? Has anyone tried putting the handles over their shoulders and wearing it like a backpack?

Which bags can I carry on an airplane?Hi,
I have a laptop messenger in medium and I absolutely love it. Now I'm looking for a bigger bag for travelling with. The thing is, I like to fly with just a carry on. Are all your bags easily under the limit? It looks like the XL messenger bag might be too big, but what about the large? Or the cargo totes? I'm looking for something that I can travel for a week or so with (I'm a light packer).
Also, do the cordura messenger bags also come with a strap pad, or just the "classic" ones?
On a completely different note, how well does the hacker work as a backpack?

Where are the non-BYOB Market totes?I was looking at the market totes. Do you have any outside of the bag builder apart from the specialty fabric ones?

I know I could just customize a bag with the xpac material but I think the pricepoint is lower when you all actually create line to accomodate your customers. For example, the new covert messenger is great, nearly perfect for me but I want it to have a laptop sleave. Is the glow-in-the-dark panel the new reflective material you are working on or is that yet to come? Does the glow material need sun? please make a pro series in the laptop messenger!" in Timbuk2:

I love your podcastsI just wanted to say how much I love the fact that your shows are downloadable as podcasts! I can't be bothered to be chained to my radio to catch the shows. Now I can listen to them whenever I want!

calfaile replied on January 26, 2008 06:28 to the question "Is the classic messenger bag really waterproof?" in Timbuk2:
I just did an empirical test: I wore the bag into the shower. The bag was full (to test the bag throughly) and only velcro-closed it instead of clipping it. There was some leakage at the upper edge but it was surprisingly little. I think that adjusting the flap may be able to limit this. It turns out that the tension from the main strap helps close the gaps I was worried about. The really good news is that the laptop compartment remains completely dry. I wouldn't keep things that I can't get a little damp in the main compartment, but I'd feel fine wearing this in the rain with my laptop inside.
