A comment on the question "Why can't I view all of my updates?" in Twitter:
Twitter is not living up to their own terms of service, as noted via http://twitter.com/tos, this is very nearly copyright infringement:
"We claim no intellectual property rights over the material you provide to the Twitter service. Your profile and materials uploaded remain yours."
Until, of course, the inability of the service to scale requires that they cut off access to said material. :-\ – dacort, on August 31, 2008 22:08

Although it would have worked (somewhat) for @replies, track is no longer functional and probably won't be for the foreseeable future unless Twitter surprises us all.
I, personally, have a script that I run that polls Summize (yes, I know...search.twitter.com) for replies and sends them to me via an SMS gateway. It's hokey, but it works...I wouldn't mind sharing the script but it requires a server to run it on 24/7.

Just felt like crying about this again as another user discovers his tweets are long lost in the Twitter ether for the foreseeable future. :-(

dacort replied on August 21, 2008 08:24 to the question "Direct messaging is not working" in Twitter:
Hey all - my guess is that this is due to Twitter attempting to put Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) protection in place on the direct messages page.
CSRF is (I believe - http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=1611) what allowed that auto-follow problem a little while back.
It seems Twitter was trying to prevent a malicious site from sending dm's as you, but didn't quite do their testing to make sure it worked properly.
This also happened on the "delete direct messages" page a couple weeks ago - please, Twitter, do some unit testing before rolling out changes! Not to mention right before you leave for the day. :-\
Another workaround is to just use "d screen_name message" in the normal update box.
A comment on the discussion "Account Deleted/banned with no reasoning" in Twitter:
Jason - it seems like Twitter is attempting to address spam in a manner that is either ineffective or has a high level of false positives, even with human interaction. Spam is a difficult problem, but when you start affecting your users on a regular basis, you are losing the battle. Either the tools aren't working or the humans aren't doing their job.
While I don't exactly know what steps Twitter is taking, I urge you to read a couple posts I've put together on this in the past. I've had experience with this type of situation and they may help prod the devs with some other ideas as to how to help prevent spam.
