jboutelle replied on July 27, 2009 07:12 to the problem "Slideshare virus infection simply by clicking slideshow links on site" in SlideShare:
Rob,
After working all weekend we have identified the cause. It was an advertiser who was posing as a legitimate ad agency. We turned off all advertising on the site and then turned them back on one by one until we could pinpoint the problem.
The problem has been fixed ... and we are taking steps to make sure that it's impossible for this to happen again.
Please accept my apologies for this, and let me know if you see (or hear about) anything remotely suspicious.

I know that this doesn't solve your problem, but it turns out that a # or & in the password will cause the slideshare ribbon not to work. So anyone out there who's having this issue, first try to set your password to something with only letters (no numbers or special characters) and see if it solves the problem.
We're still looking into your problem, ,sunny!

Todd,
I get what you're saying, and completely agree. We need to get out of the business of asking for third-party passwords, ESPECIALLY the ones that are tied to email.
We're operating under high load right now, engineering-wise. Can you recommend any libraries, widgets, or online services that would help us make this change (to OAuth or something similar) more easily?

It's the dreaded "chipmonk effect". Your voice sounds like the chipmonks (fast and high), right? This is a "feature" of the flash audio player that causes playback to happen either too fast or too slow if the MP3 file has it’s sample rate at a value which is not a multiple of 11,025 Hz..
Info on how to fix it (using audacity) is here:

If that doesn't help, then google "flash chipmunk effect" for lots more info on this very annoying flash bug.
The short answer is that you will probably have to re-export your mp3 file with a sample rate that is a multiple of 11025 Hz. Most of the time most software does tthis automatically (so that this problem doesn't occur). What software are you using?-

Known bug with camtasia-produced mp3s and slideshareCamtasia generates mp3 files that claim to have a bit rate of 0 kbps. While the files are actually fine, the file attribute is set incorrectly, and so it was not playable by the slideshare flash player. Simply opening the mp3 file in audacity, and then exporting it again fixed the problem for me.

SlideCast that shows how to make a slidecastI've created a slidecast on how to make a slidecast (how meta!). It's only 3 minutes long, but it covers all the basics. Thought folks might appreciate it, so posting it here.

We are just starting work on keynote support. But I gotta be real here ... it's not going to be easy, and is at least a couple months off.
But at least we know how we're going to do it, I guess that's the semi-good news.
I can't wait to write the blog post announcing keynote support! Hang in there...-
