HI chris,
I just looked at your site and I'm not seeing any recommendations at all. Can you send me a screen shot of what you're referring to? My email is kate@outbrain.com
Thanks!

Hello,
I have my OutBrain set to display "limited" recommendations, but the "best" recommendations are still showing.

Any help?

Hi Grimm,
It's not because of any any advertising motivation, it's because we don't want to splash pages with irrelevant links that will disrupt the user experience. If a blog is set to in-site only there is less content to choose from and thus a higher chance that there won't be any relevant recommendations to offer. We prefer to make no recommendation over a bad recommendation.
As for the photo content, we make recommendations a few ways but on the most basic level it is contextual similarities which only works for text content, not videos or images. So posts with titles, images and "code" won't usually turn up very many contextual similarities for us.
Thanks for using our widget!

you`re one quick lady. thank you. and lol @ the photo content comment. that's not correct, but i won't go into further details now ;)
so if i understand correctly you can't provide the maximum of recommendations because i set it to my blog only instead of linking to other sites which use outbrain widgets and so advertising for your smart link system? that's cool lol, at least it's free and working. thanks again.
regards
Grimm

Hi Grimm,
I have made the requested change to your settings. Just fyi because you have set your recommendations to in site only and most of your posts appear to be primarily photo content we will not always be able to serve the maximum number of recommendation. This is in an effort to avoid serving bad recs that only take up real estate on your site and don't add any value to the reader.
Let me know if you have questions.

Hi There Grimm,
Yep. We're on top of it. If you ask a question at 10:00 at night it sometimes takes us until the following morning to get to it.
This is a new change in the default settings for the outbrain widget. You can see our reasoning on our blog: here
We also explain there how you can change the settings back to in site if you so choose. All you have to do is register, claim your blog and change the blog settings to "limited."
Feel free to contact me directly if you have any further issues.

Best,
