dameneko replied on August 19, 2009 19:36 to the question "Why is APL*ITUNES charging me?" in Apple:
this obviously is an ongoing problem:
http://getsatisfaction.com/apple/topi...
i have never ordered anything from itunes and all of a sudden my checking account is almost cleaned out? i call your customer "service" and you won't even tell me the email address of the person who ripped me off? you won't even file a complaint with law enforcement when there is obvious fraud on a large scale happening in your online store?!
why, when there is extensive record online of this problem, has this continued to be a problem? why do we not hear more about this in the media?
WHY is the company not doing anything about it? they are looking at a lawsuit or some negative publicity if they continue to ignore us or brush off our concerns.
i discovered tonight that apple has the worst customer service anywhere! you guys are more smug and rude than e*trade, and that takes a lot!
you, apple, have all the information you need to give to law enforcement to pursue those who would defraud the public and sully your name. WHY, WHY, WHY do you just sit there and pretend this isn't happening?
STOP RIPPING PEOPLE OFF!
is this some kind of inside job?
BOYCOTT APPLE and report them to the FTC!!

iStig, Apple ultimately received funds stolen from my account. They had to credit my checking account. They are the ones with the f'n IP address and email address used to open a fraudster iTunes account with my debit card, yet they did not do anything with that info. I realize you are a Mac fanatic, but dude, Apple has been heinous in dealing with this problem.

james, a lot of these charges ARE going through Apple! Apple had to approve the credits to my bank account. stop spreading lies!!! – dameneko, on February 19, 2009 02:02

iStig, Apple DID get my money! they are the ones who had to approve the credits to my checking account. for the last time:
APPLE DID TAKE MONEY FROM MY CHECKING ACCOUNT.
APPLE is the one who needs to issue a credit. it took me one month to get everything sorted out. it is more difficult to replace funds stolen from a checking account than it is from a credit card.
stop spreading lies, iStig!! – dameneko, on February 19, 2009 01:49

A comment on the discussion "Unauthorized purchases." in Apple:
lucky you, kseve! i DID speak with apple store support, after the non-existent itunes support...the woman i spoke with was really rude! she is the one who upset me the most. they were shocked, shocked, that i did not have an itunes/apple store account. the woman i spoke with was very smug and insensitive. i have a debit card, not a credit card. they denied this was a problem and i will have to fight them. they refuse to release any information about the fradulent transaction unless i sue them or get the police to go after them.
i am still in the process of getting my money back and will post all the steps i had to take when it's done.
i left the apple store support number on the other thread; thanks for posting again here. i did manage to get the number for their fraud department, too. that is the number to pass to lab enforcement, FTC, BBB, FBI. that number is 1-866-242-1826.
it is harder to get debit card money back than to get an unauthorized charge cleared. i am learning this the hard way. =P – dameneko, on November 10, 2008 23:54

i added the link to the apple job posting above not just to be cheeky, but to demonstrate that apple DOES know this is a problem. they LIE when they say they haven't seen this before. how stupid do they think we are?
here's what their "fraud analyst" does:
Job Description
The position is part of Apple Online Store Operations and supporting US Market in terms of providing post sales payment processing, by recovering credit card orders that have failed authorization. The analyst may need to contact the banks in US in order to make a certain decision.
In a nutshell, a Fraud Analyst supports the team by:
1) Analyzing blocked orders.
2) Based on the analysis, making decision whether it's a good (Genuine Customer) or bad (Fraudster) orders.
3) Releasing good orders and canceling bad orders.
if they have one now, they sure as hell aren't doing their job!
lies exposed, apple risks very bad PR here. i was upset to have my money stolen, but am absolutely LIVID at the way apple has treated me. we need to tell everyone we know how apple has lied to the public about not knowing of fraud happening in their store.
the more i dig, the more i find, the more rotten apple looks! an important thing to note in the job description is that apple keeps track of blocked orders. they do have the tools to combat online fraud and they do collect information that would help with this effort, but ultimately, someone's not doing their job! – dameneko, on November 07, 2008 11:15
