I have found the same problem with everything being disabled in the morning. I have the scan set to start at 1:00 AM. Haven't noticed the SBAMSvc problem but I didn't look for it. This has only happened since the latest upgrade in software a couple of days ago. Scan seems to complete just fine. There is no other protection program.
However, I am having a problem with cleaning out after the scan. I am not getting a report of the scan where I have the option to clean or quarantine. This morning when I ran a scan report there were 3 risks detected and no way to clean or quaranteen. One was Weatherbug. Not a problem. Another was just the cookies. Not a problem. The last is a Rootkit named Generic MBR Rootkit leveled at severe risk. In the Clean Action Taken column it says canceled for each of the items. Where do I get to Quarantine or remove the Rootkit problem?
Thanks,
Dane

I found out after I sent the above message that the e-mail and attachments are actually going through to the person but the message is coming up anyway. I guess I should request a receipt from the person when I send something with an attachment. We'll see how that works out. The message is just an annoyance at this point.
What is the SSL you refer to?
Thanks.

Peter,
Before I did anything I set a restore point. I am one of those people who have had there computer slow to a crawl with the later version of VIPER than what I had. Through the process of installing VIPER the computer needed to be restarted and that restored communication with the scanner. I will have to wait till tomorrow to see if this fixed things or not. If this worked, I should be able to scan something in the morning. I'll give it a shot.
Hopefully this version won't give my computer hic ups!
Thanks,
Dane

Peter,
I tried shutting Viper down but the scanner was still not detected. It will only be detected after a start up. The reason I suspect VIPER is that I almost never shut my computer off. VIPER is set to scan in the middle of the night. If I shut my computer down and restart now, it will recognize the scanner. Tomorrow morning if I try to scan something it will not be recognized again. The only thing of any significance between now and then would be the virus scan. Could be something else but with this happening only after VIPER was installed and the scanner not being recognized after a night that a virus scan is done is suspicious.
The scanner is an older scanner and scsi instead of usb. That being aside, it used to work and now it doesn't. Turning the printer off and on does no good either.

Viper and Scanner problemEver since I installed Viper 3.1.2343 I have been having trouble with my scanner. Each day now when I want to use the scanner the computer does not detect it. I have to restart the computer to get it to recognize the scanner. I have Viper scan my computer each night. Is it doing something to my settings that is messing with my scanner?

Gerald,
What version did you install? 3.1.2410? That seems to be the latest from Sunbelt. There is so much stuff on my computer that it takes over a minute to populate the Add/Remove anyway, Wonder if this will make it longer. I think I will wait to see if there are any other brave people like you who will have success.
Thanks,
Dane

Well I tried using the "fix" last night. Thankfully I was smart enough to set a restore point before I "upgraded" to the latest version and then did the "fix". Computer slowed to a crawl.
I suppose it was better than before. Those SBAM things are only eating up 60-70% of my CPU instead of the 80-90% as before!
Open an e-mail? Forget it! It took almost 8 minutes for 2 e-mails to download and almost 6 minutes to open one.
I had to shut VIPRE off just so I could open GOBACK and restore. The older version seems to work ok but I am getting tired of all this. I can deal with the delays but when the wife and kids need to work on the computer and it is sooo sloooow it is not a happy time.
I received an e-mail from Mike Williams saying that they should have a new update build coming out in the next month. Was/is this fix, vctu.exe, part of the new update? If it is, looks like I will have to revert to something else.
I can't imagine that there are only the 6 or 8 of us out there who are experiencing this problem.
Anyway, Hope you are all having a good Sunday. Off to church.
