A comment on the idea "Perfect BumpTop" in BumpTop:
Awesome idea, but it doesn't really fit with the theme of the program - the whole 'virtual desk' idea. Maybe an idea for 'BumpWorld'? – Daniel Tolin, on April 15, 2009 15:34

I'm not saying the options already in place for the radial menu are important, I'm saying the radial menu itself is a fantastic idea. I would like to see cut/copy/paste/delete in that menu, with everything else in the 'More...' category. I like the radial menu myself because it lends to the whole feel of BumpTop being something truly different.
ANd the problem with the icons for me is that I really like having my icons with transparencies. For instance, the shortcut icon for the game 'Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time' is the logo you see all over the palace in the game. The edes of the icon uses transparant colour so the logo itself is the only part of the icon you see. I really wouldn't like that icon slapped on a solid colour 'slab'. I do really like how all of my game shortcuts are all stuck up on my north wall like stickers right now :D
For word documents, etc. however, I think it's a fantastic idea!

That makes complete sense, but I was just wondering why it wasn't coming back *out* of memory after BumpTop was closed. But I guess memory leaks can be expected early on. – Daniel Tolin, on April 14, 2009 21:19

Interesting, apparently BumpTop isn't using any of my video memory... Is this normal, was I right in assuming that it pulls from standard memory rather than video memory? I mean, I totally have 896mb that aren't being used here... until I get into a game that is. Hmm...
Also, my Render reason is 'RndrManager said so'. Is that normal? – Daniel Tolin, on April 13, 2009 23:59

I do like some of your ides myself, but I personalyl think the circular right click menu is perfectly fine, I really don't care if I have to click 'More...'.
I do thorougly enjoy the idea of adding some substance to icons, kind of like how pictures are currently implemented, but it could be really difficult wth anything that isn't a solid rectangle or square. I guess retracing the edges of filled areas to give the illusion of a 3D model... but then we're talking about adding textures on texture and that's just going to hammer the VRAM...
But I digress.... I'm going to clicky the like button, but I don't agree with the right-click menus point.-

Heh... well... um... being a gamer, my entire north wall is covered in icons. So, uh... somewhere around 30 (lowballing here) on that wall alone? Not to mention the two or three piles of documents and pictures sitting in my bottom right corner. But as I said, at startup my usage settles around 1.2gb. After the system running for, well, let's just say 12 hours, my memory usage is going through the roof.
Once those icons are cached in memory, they shouldn't be continually adding to that, should they? Also, even after BumpTop is closed, my usage still hangs around 3.5-3.9gb. If BumpTop is taken out of memory, my usage should reduce to somewhere around 1-1.5gb, right? – Daniel Tolin, on April 13, 2009 22:09
Daniel Tolin replied on April 13, 2009 21:47 to the question "What are the 3 most annoying things about BumpTop?" in BumpTop:
1. Every time I double click an icon on my wall, it drops about a BT-inch (That's a BumpTop-inch).
2. Sometimes when I double click a wall, even when using Bumptop for a little while, BumpTop will flash with the 'BumpTop Revealed' message.
3. The lack of a 'Refresh' option in the right-click menus, or even under 'More...' if I change an icon image, or replace an image with an updated version of the same I have to close and re-start BumpTop for it to update.
And not an annoyance because it has to be there to be one, I want Crumple and Fold again :o-

Hmm, I haven't noticed this problem myself, but I guess if you're *constantly* moving things around, you are going to get a good amount of activity form the card. Other than that, BumpTop hasn't affected my performance in games. I'm still getting a sweet constant 60FPS in Burnout Paradise, and the same 40 I was getting in GTA4 :o

I understand that you guys have tracked down the problem now, but I also have something to add. I have noticed my memory usage skyrocketing after BumpTop has been enabled for a while.
My computer will start out at usage around 997mb (standard for Vista 64-bit with aero enabled), once Bumptop is loaded it will settle at around 1.17-1.23gb (I'd assume mostly from textures etc., as it seems you guys have it using system RAM as opposed to VRAM).
However, I checked this morning during one of these periodic freezes, and my memory usage was WELL over 3gb!
Just out of curiosity, what did you guys find? Is it related to memory leaks or is what I've discovered new to you? An answer would be much appreciated, if just to satisfy my OCD curiosity.-

My beta edition downgraded in features?Hey guys, I started up BumpTop this morning on the test PC we have at where I work, and recieved a message to update to version 1.0.
So I'm all like "Ooh, new features and bugfixes!" *clicky*
Now, however, I only seem to have the limited BumpTop Free features. Did the beta end early and I just didn't get that memo? Throw me a bone here guys!
