Daniel Raffel replied on December 02, 2008 22:24 to the problem "Songbird freezing upon playback" in Songbird:
We'd like to look into this further can you file a bug here and include details such as:
* Your operating system
* The version of Songbird that you're running
* What type(s) of files you're having problems playing
If you wouldn't mind it would also help us if you could share with us/attach (to the bug report) any media file that causes the crash to occur.
Once we have some of these details we'll be able to investigate this further and get back to you. We'll probably have additional questions to ask and the bug you file will allow us to track this more efficiently.
Thanks for taking the time to help us explore this issue!

Daniel Raffel replied on November 07, 2008 15:55 to the question "Why is my media missing album artwork after importing from iTunes?" in Songbird:
Album artwork provided by iTunes is encrypted in a proprietary format and stored in a location that is not obviously associated with the actual media item.
Additionally, iTunes does not embed artwork into the media item.
If you download media from the iTunes store (or fetch album artwork using iTunes) then 3rd party applications will have trouble importing the album art unless the user takes additional steps to embed these images into their media.
If album artwork is embedded in the media item then Songbird will successfully read and display it.
If you want to embed artwork from iTunes into your media these 3rd party tools can assist you with that (note: we haven't tested them):
For Mac iTunes users
There is a 3rd party Apple Script called "Embeded Artwork"
For Windows users
There is a script called "itunes_insert_artwork"
In Short:
If you want Songbird to properly display album artwork originally downloaded using iTunes we suggest you embed the artwork into your media before importing them into Songbird. If you have already imported your media, we suggest you try using one of these tools, then delete your Songbird profile, and re-launch and re-import your media.
In the future, we'll provide a mechanism to fetch album artwork from the web. And, we'll continue to explore ways to improve this experience.

Thanks for your feedback. We've considered this too!
We've got an open bug to support jailbroken iPhone/iPod touch's. Feel free to watch its progress or comment on it. Your comment has definitely re-opened the debate to prioritize this work so your voice is being heard! Unfortunately, I don't have an update but if you watch the bug you'll get the latest status on it.
With regards to PPC support the train has left the building on that one. We respect your disappointment. It was a difficult decision for us to make but it's not something we're considering revisiting at this time. While I understand that it's not the same as official support the good news is that there is now a community PPC build. There are a number of threads on why we dropped PPC support here on GS - if you don't feel like they address your concerns please feel free to contact me here or via email: support [a t] songbirdnest [dot] com
Appreciate you reaching out to us. Hope it's ok we responded here vs email!
Daniel Raffel set one of Daniel Raffel's replies as an official response to "metadata" in Songbird
Daniel Raffel replied on October 14, 2008 17:07 to the question "metadata" in Songbird:
Some common reasons you might see the message you reported:
1) if the user you are logged in as on your machine doesn't have Write permissions to the file(s) you are trying to edit with the Metadata Editor.
2) if Songbird cannot find the file(s).
3) if the file(s) you are trying to edit is hosted on the internet
If you track down one of the files on your desktop that's giving you this message you might check it's Properties and determine that you have "Write" permission.
If you're not already familiar, you can learn more about how to access a files Properties and see/edit file permissions.
Please let us know what you discover, we'd like to help you sort this out!

Mr Dave:
There's a link to all Songbird contributed builds here: http://getsongbird.com/download/
If you don't want to follow the above link, you can get details for where to download the PPC contributed build here: http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Develope...
We will always provide a link to contributed builds (and are grateful to the community for them) but we are only surfacing top level links to builds on our download page that we officially support. – Daniel Raffel, on October 08, 2008 05:08
