I tried this and it didn't help. the settings are set on Latin us English in IE8 and Firefox 3.0.10 it was set on new times roman font and i changed it to tahoma and the boxes didn't have the little numbers and letters in them and the box was split in half vertically. this was the only change i could get, if you have any other ideas I would be glad to hear about them.
Thanks

problem with fonts in new windows xp installation.I built a new computer in February 09. everything is working great, except for some of the fonts. They keep showing up as little boxes with number and letters in them.
I asked a Microsoft guy on twitter about it. He said it sounds like I'm having a font issue, but i couldn't get him to help that is all he said. I already know that.
I called microsoft and they will not help me because they said my copy of windows is an OEM copy and they are not allowed to give out support for any OEM items;
I copied this from twitter i just got this sent to me today. I don't know if the boxes will show up for you or not? ( House bypasses governorâs veto to claim Oklahomaâs sovereignty ) this only happens on the internet. it is doing this on sites like FOX News, in Google searches, yahoo, in chat rooms, Wikipedia, in my email, even here on this site.
If anyone knows how i can correct this issue i would appreciate very much.
some times its so bad i can't even read what's on a web page.
Thanks

I got this problem fixed on my computer. I removed ALL adobe programs the searched my computer for any left over adobe files and I found a lot of them, I shredded them them. then I restarted my computer. then ran another search and I found a few more adobe notepad files. I shredded them too. then restarted my computer again, and again I ran another search and found nothing. then I went to adobe's web site and got the newest flash player and saved the file to my desktop. then searched for the flash player patch. and saved it to my desktop too. Then closed the browser. cleared the browser's cookies and history. Then restarted my computer. Installed the flash player. restarted my computer Then installed the patch. restarted my computer again. now my CPU is running at 10% to 15 % on www.bacardi.com. before it was running at 98% It worked for me. Hopefully it works for you too?

Danny asked a question in Adobe on March 19, 2009 01:44:
Why Dose Flash Slow My ComputerI have a brand new computer that I built last month. It has a Gigabyte-4 quad bios motherboard, AMD Phenom x4 quad core CPU at 4.2 GHz per core, and 16GB of ram, and two 500GB hard drives, and SLI with 2 GeForce dual core GPUs. I'm Using Windows XP SP3 2008 Edition. Every time I get on a site that has flash of any kind it almost stops my computer dead in its tracks, and maxes out the CPU 90 to 100%.
I contacted AMD and they say its NOT the CPU, that it is a software issue
I need to find out what is causing this and how to fix it, since almost every website today use flash of some kind. I do have the latest version of flash installed as well with all of the software on my computer.
Please help, Thanks
