Darael replied on June 30, 2009 22:52 to the idea "Package Management" in allmyapps:
Note that at the line of links near the top it shows what OS (distro) you're browsing packages for - if you click on the leftmost link, you get a choice of all available distros, which currently appears to be three releases of Ubuntu only. Ubuntu uses .deb packages, but for the most part they are not binary-compatible with Debian or other distros based on it.
I surmise that the inclusion only of Ubuntu packages is because most other distributions do not (yet) use apturl, which is what allows the "click a link to install the package" idea to work with packages form the repos. Obviously, any distribution using Ubuntu as a base and sharing its repositories should also work.

A comment on the question "More hot key options on Windows?" in Mozilla:
That's windows' default behaviour. If you set something Launchy to the same shortcut, it intercepts and catches it before it brings up the menu. I've experienced it when launchy crashed, and I forgot to re-open it. – Darael, on September 03, 2008 19:39
Darael reported a problem in Mozilla on September 03, 2008 19:18:
Issues with "this" function after closing a tabSometimes, typing any command with this/it/etc without a current selection, I find that instead of using the url of the current page, as ubiquity is supposed to (for email at least), it uses a selection I have previously made, even if it has been unselected and the tab closed since. However, the problem doesn't cross between browser windows. I can work around it by opening pages I want to send links to in a new window, of course, but this seems to defeat the whole point of tabbed browsing, ne? The strange thing is that it is inconsistent whether this happens or not, but once it happens, it remains until the window is closed.
This can also happen for the command email to [contact], with no "this".
I have a suggestion related to this, which while not fixing the problem would make the task possible even when the problem occurs. Making "page" or "link" (or both) keywords similar to "to" and "this" would help, and be a useful feature anyway.-

That works too. And fair enough, although I don't have any problems with firefox's chrome and launchy on alt-space. – Darael, on September 03, 2008 19:01
A comment on the question "More hot key options on Windows?" in Mozilla:
I did think of that, but then I thought "But ubiquity is a plugin in itself, while launchy is a focus for plugins". It's about the basic structure of the two programs. Plus, launchy looks nicer at the moment. (yes, I know it depends what skin you use) – Darael, on September 03, 2008 19:00
Darael shared an idea in Mozilla on September 02, 2008 23:41:
Ubiquity suggestions with respect to Launchy.I've been thinking about some of the similarities between Ubiquity and Launchy, and I think each project could benefit from the other. A quick overview: Both projects are based on the "type what you want to do" idea, both include capability for creating custom commands and command types.
Since this is the Mozilla section, the Ubiquity suggestion first. The command interpreter used in Launchy is extremely clever, in that it "learns", can recognise commands from any part of the name, and has an effective "Do What I Mean" system. This system can at the least provide inspiration for the one to be used in the final versions of ubiquity.
Entirely separately, a plugin for launchy to enable integration with ubiquity would be a way to make things easier, and would help to avoid hotkey conflicts such as one already mentioned here.
Darael replied on September 02, 2008 23:25 to the question "More hot key options on Windows?" in Mozilla:
You could set Launchy back to the default of Alt+space, or anything else with shift, ctrl, win or alt. It can use any key you like with one of those, pretty much. Anyway, something feels really natural about alt+space.
Personaly, I think someone ought to make a Ubiquity plugin for Launchy, as they're deisgned to work in almost the same way. (customisable commands, type what you want it to do, etc). Taking the launchy idea of intelligent and adaptive DWIM for ubiquity would be nice, too. I'd do it myself if I could. I'm rambling again. Sorry.-
