Stony River, can you confirm that this is a Flock update request and not an update request for one of your extensions? Typically, extensions check for updates on startup, so even if your browser is up to date, the extensions will show a message if you're a little behind. The best way to help us figure out whether or not this is the case will be to attach a screen shot of the dialog you're seeing. In windows, I think you can do this by pressing the prnt-screen button on the top row of keys. This sticks the screen capture on your clipboard, where you could paste into an application like Word or Paint (or some other word processing or image manipulation program). Can you give this a try? Thanks,
D

Change the OS to linux or mac if you need the other versions.

We're still very much alive and kicking. We made a DNS change recently and have had a couple of reports of what seems like DNS weirdness, but we haven't been able to duplicate the issue. If you're up for helping troubleshoot a little, do me a favor and do an nslookup and mail me the output at daryl at flock.com. In windows, you do this by going to start -> run -> type "command" and in the resulting black window, type "nslookup flock.com". In mac, you type the same command in a terminal window (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.app). In linux, you do the same in a terminal window.

Oh dear. Yes, you can delete stuff in the lucene folder. This is the full-text index of your browsing history that populates the search bar at the top right of your browser. Chances are this will speed your browser up a bit too. If you rely heavily on the full-text history search in the search box, you might want to reconsider, but I doubt this is the case.

Daryl replied on January 23, 2009 21:06 to the problem "cannot upgrade flock to latest verion on my laptop" in Flock:
Ron, it's actually pretty confusing. Sorry about that. In a nutshell, there are lots of under-the-hood changes between 1.x and 2.x, and we haven't tested the upgrade path from 1.x to 2.x rigorously enough yet to feel confident in turning that update on. So when Mozilla releases security updates, we apply them to both versions of the browser and release our own updates. There are two separate tracks. I'm guessing you installed on the one system later than you installed on the other (after we had released 2.0), and that's how you have the different tracks on your different computers. Hope this wasn't information overload. :)
Daryl replied on January 21, 2009 18:35 to the problem "cannot upgrade flock to latest verion on my laptop" in Flock:
Thanks for getting that info for me, Ron. It tells me that you're using version 1.2.7, which is the latest version in the 1.2 branch. We haven't yet released an update from the 1.2 branch to the 2.0 branch, though we're working toward it. If you wish to upgrade to 2.0, try saving a copy of your profile to your desktop or another safe place and then downloading 2.0.3 from www.flock.com. You should be able to install over top of your 1.2.7 install without issue. If an issue does arise, you can always go back to the profile you saved and a 1.2.7 version.

Hmm, I've just installed 1.0, and when I go to "about:", I get a screen with the Flock logo that lists the build id number I need from you. It's possible that in this older version of Flock, I could get the build id from the user agent. Please go to http://whatsmyuseragent.com/ and paste in the information next to the "Your User Agent" label.
Daryl replied on January 19, 2009 22:12 to the problem "cannot upgrade flock to latest verion on my laptop" in Flock:
Ah, I'll bet our 1.0 versions don't have about:flockbuild in them. Sorry about that. Do you fare any better if you go to "about:" (note the colon)? What I'm looking for ultimately is something called a build id that's a number like this:
1229460618.21435
We stamp a number of that format on each release of our product, and updates are deployed based on that number (so it's specific to a whole release and not to your install). If for some reason you got a beta build that has a different number, that would explain why you're not getting the update. And so I want to see the number so that I can figure out what's going on.

If you don't mind, type "about:flockbuild" in your urlbar, and paste the results in here. That'll help me figure out why you're not getting an update. We haven't turned updates from 1.x -> 2.x on yet, but a 1.0 should have updated to a 1.2 long ago. If you want to bypass all the troubleshooting, try saving a copy of your profile and just download the latest build from flock.com and install over top of your old install.

hawcot, you might try saving your profile somewhere for safe-keeping (make a copy of the folder) and then just reinstalling by downloading from our web site. Doing this might get you up and running again more quickly than otherwise.
DanS we've uncovered an issue with the linux build that we'll probably be correcting next week. It has to do with the version of linux on the server that built the linux bits we shipped.

You can go to Tools -> Options, select the "Main" tab, and replace "about:myworld" in the home page text field with the home page of your choice. If you want multiple home pages, I believe you can separate them with either spaces or pipes. The pipe is the shift character of the backslash:
Backslash: \
Pipe: |
