DataWraith started following the question "storing copyrighted material for private use" in Wuala.
DataWraith replied on February 16, 2008 10:22 to the idea "Let users decide to which directory to download files." in Wuala:
True.
The local backup is annoying, but apparently the network is not (yet?) good enough to store data with 100% reliability, so data has to be refreshed from a backup somewhere. However, the developers are apparently working on a solution (see http://getsatisfaction.com/wuala/topi...)
The local cache OTOH is just that, a cache. You can shrink it in the options, at the expense of possibly having to download something again that would otherwise be stored there.-

abcdefgh, from your reference to dm-crypt I guess you are using Linux.
You may want to take a look at EncFS (http://www.arg0.net/encfs), which would work with Wuala since it doesn't use container files -- it encrypts the files individually. Of course that has the drawback of leaking the number of files and their size, but if you need an additional layer of encryption, it will probably work well.
DataWraith replied on January 12, 2008 11:39 to the problem "Yellow online-state even though connection is suitable for trading" in Wuala:
The problem seems to have been resolved for me. My online status has been green for a few days now. Unless the Wuala devs changed something, the only thing I can think of that might eventually have had something to do with it, was software suspending the computer while Wuala was running -- I'm not sure though.

Yellow online-state even though connection is suitable for tradingI've been stuck in the yellow online-state for a few days now.
My connection is suitable for trading, so I'm a bit puzzled about that. Is there anything I can do to reach the green online status? Restarting does not seem to help.
The computer is in the router's DMZ, so all connections should be forwarded.
Connection Check:
Analyzing Connection...
Got answer from Ping Server A, your external adress is /91.32.192.x:55023
Got answer from Ping Server B, your external adress is /91.32.192.x:55035
/91.32.192.x:7234 accepts incoming connections on configured port.
Congratulations, your connection is suitable for trading storage!

I installed Wuala on a different PC (Windows XP this time), but it makes no difference. I still can't upload/download anything above 300 KB. Connection check there also says that the connection is suitable for trading.
I should reach 17% online time within a few days. I'll report back whether starting to trade storage makes any difference.

Still, other files I access(ed) don't appear in the download window once they finished downloading... hm.

I'm behind a router, but the computer is in the DMZ, so all other traffic should be forwarded to it, too.
I'll see, whether I can install Wuala on a different PC to check whether the problem also exists there.
Thank you for you effort. :)

Yes, the problem is still there. I don't think it had something to do with the server problems; I installed Wuala before the ping server went down.
Like I said, smaller files upload/download fine, but larger files do not. It appears that the upload is not even started after the files are imported for some reason. It does not matter whether a single or multiple files are inserted, all smaller files upload fine, the larger ones don't. These files can be seen by other people when I share them, but they (of course) get an error message saying that the file isn't completely uploaded yet.
When trying to download something larger than ~300 KB Wuala says "Checking..." under the file and then pops up a "Could not open file" messagebox. The file then appears in the download-window, but does not start downloading.
Some time after my initial post I noticed another thing: The download window actually listed two successfull downloads >300 KB. But I did not try to download these files, I tried to upload them. I'm sure at least one of the files was already present in the network, since I tried to download it before, then got it from a different source (the Wallpaper Group blog, http://wualawallpapers.co.nr/). The other file might already have been on the network, but I'm sure I didn't try to download it via Wuala before. Both files remain greyed out in Wuala.
I'm using Sun Java JRE 1.6.0_01 if that makes any difference.

Can't upload/download large filesFor me, Wuala doesn't upload/download files that are above about 300 KB. With files smaller than that everything works perfectly, but larger files are neither uploaded nor downloaded.
Downloads appear in the download-window, but progress indicators stay at 0%.
Added files get stuck in status "Backup 100%" (greyed out), upload-window is empty.
Windows Vista Home Premium; accessing the net through a router, connection check says my connection is suitable for trading though.-
