A comment on the question "What would you like to see in your ideal contact management / CRM application?" in hedgehog lab:

    Sarat Pediredla
    Thanks for the feedback David.
I agree that an ideal CRM across various organisations would be customisable to their needs. I guess what I was trying to get at was the "core" of what people think their CRM should do well and what they think it should definitely NOT do. In that perspective, I would for example, consider an API + integration as quite critical so that your CRM system can work as the central middleware for any other systems you use. From our perspective, we just want to hear what customers have to say, even if that means there is no one best answer. – Sarat Pediredla, on October 12, 2008 21:11

this is a strange question as the ideal crm would have exactly enough to do what i want it to do and no more, and would be different for each organisation. It would also adapt over time so when the next new technology i need comes along it would magically support it.

actually there are 3 points there...

    1. size does not fit all! crm vs vrm
    2. it has to be modular so that you can turn the units off if you don't need them.
    3. it has to have continual devlopment built in ideally, with auto upgrades over the net.

a couple of other key factors are:
    4. its best if its very instinctive to use, ie has an interface that you are instantly familiar with.
    5. it has to integrate with all the other systems that you use other wise it creates duplication - and time is money.

Thanks for getting back to me todd.

I work in an art gallery and most users aren't that technical. The idea of storing their bookmarks on-line, where they can access them from any machine they happen to be on pretty much blows them away, then i introduce the concept that they can tag the bookmarks and search those tags and they start to realize they can then bookmark more items as they no longer need to worry about finding it in folders or drop downs. Then comes introducing sharing their bookmarks and as most of them work in education area this is a really popular one, and they love groups etc, the final area that i cover is the exploring stuff, and again this is an area that they seem to identify with pretty easily.

I have about 600 bookmarks and propably use magnolia on a daily basis (i do a fair bit of research)

Some of the ideas for future developments that i have suggested in the past would be things like the ability to automatically check for broken links, (many thinks i tag are news articles and will not be on the page forever, along a similar line i suggested the ability to set an expiry date for a link, so i may only want it until an event has finished etc.) the ability to see sites other users have recently booked marked with similar keywords to a site i just bookmarked would be good, or a visual display, like a memory map of my keywords and there relationship to other keywords would be great, any sort of stats would also be nice, most visited sites, least visited, most bookmarked, the ability to rate a site so 5 stars would come top of the list when i searched. ability to search everyones book marks, so if i wanted to see say anything tagged with css it would show be the most bookmarked sites with that keyword accross the entire community.

Sorry tif that was all a bit random, but i hope it helped.

I hope that where we're taking Ma.gnolia in M2 gets even more cogs turning and thought bubbles percolating :)

We definitely have a wealth of feedback from people on what they do and don't like, and we're looking forward to scratching some of the most common itches that have come out of the current design. Speaking of, do you get any common questions, misunderstandings, objections or concerns about Ma.gnolia when you demo it (thanks for including us in your workshops, btw!)? Hearing about what might be going wrong (or right) in those first impressions can help us as we really dig into the design phase.

    Again, thanks for the encouragement!

I think it has to do with objects that are hiding other elements in the area you are trying to capture. If all the art was on the wall, then far less photos would be needed vs. having to do a 360 shoot around each object in the room.

For David, you can try getting an updated driver at http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_cat...

For DDaz, you definitely should get an updated driver for the Intel 945. The current version is 6.14.10.4964. You can get it from Windows update, or you can download it from Intel or your hardware vendor.

    I hope that helps.

many thanks for the response, i guess i'll just upload them again with the additional photos. is there any advice avaialble on how to get the best results for matching image mapping. As i said the space was very coplicated, but i thaught that by taking shots of each of the surfaces of the corners that joined them i'd get reasonable results, but the process seemed to struggle, even with 200+ shots. Is there any sort of rule of thumb of how many images that are required to produce a good synth.

It's not currently possible to add photos to an existing synth. We do check the hash of each photo and if you haven't changed the photos from the first attempt we won't upload them again. In most cases this should result in faster synthing since upload typically takes the longest.

adding additional photos or mapping points?
Is it possible to add more photos to an existing synth? I thaught i'd start with something interesting and as i work for a contemporary art gallery i went and shot 204 images of a pretty interesting exhibition, i tried to overlap the shots enough that photosynth would get the connections and this worked quite well, but not well enough to map all of the images, so i was thinking maybe if i added additional images it would make some of the missing connections, alternately it would be nice to be able to offer it some help by manual matching points, so taking 2 photos and showing it where they connect. Having said all this i was increadibly impressed with what it did match - great job guys. fyi this was my first synth http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=8...
