Dave Sag reported a problem in Cabxpress (Taxi company in Canberra) on February 24, 2009 23:40:
Drivers claim they are under no obligation to honour bookings.I have been a happy user of Cabxpress in Canberra for about a year but recently, indeed the last 4 times I have tried to book a cab the cab has not arrived. When I have phoned up to find out where my cab is I have been told that just because I have booked a taxi, does not mean there is any guarantee I will get one. Last night the call-centre guy I spoke to was very rude to me and basically implied that, because I wanted to go from my home to Parliament House (a reasonably short trip) it was no-wonder no drivers wanted to pick me up.
What use is a taxi service that can't reliably take bookings? Canberra is Australia's national capital and the cab services here are an absolute joke.
Dave Sag replied on February 24, 2009 23:24 to the problem "DON'T BUY XTORRENT, OR ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY" in Spectacular Apps:
Hi Scott,
I've emailed David Watanabe from XLife (That's the actual company btw, not xtorrent which is a product) directly and asked him to come check out this forum. You are right, he should never respond rudely to a customer and I would be just as mad as you are if that had happened to me.
I've never experienced the issue you describe so perhaps it's a preferences thing. Sometimes corrupt prefs files can cause apps to do weird things. But, as you say, you've rebuilt your mac (presumably by that you mean you've clean-installed a new system and installed all your old apps again. did you restore the preferences too? Try nixing~/Library/Preferences/org.xlife.Xtorrent.plistfirst and see if that fixes the problem,

and if not then try nixing the folder~/Library/Application Support/XTorrent

Dave Sag reported a problem in Kiva on February 22, 2009 09:43:
Alternative payment methods to PayPal?I have had to stop lending via Kiva as PayPal refuse to understand that I have a UK bank account with an Australian address (I used to live in the UK but moved) and so will not allow me to associate my bank with PayPal. Is there another way I can get money into my Kiva account from my UK Barclays account?
Dave Sag shared an idea in Hertz on February 22, 2009 09:38:
Airport fees are outrageousI am a Hertz #1 Gold club member and usually pick up a hire car from the airport where I land. Recently I discovered that Hertz are now charging an 'airport handling fee' of around 10% (or so - this is from memory alas) over and above the usual rate. For a two-week hire this added hundreds of dollars to my bill.
So here's a tip. When hiring from Hertz (unsure if this applies to others), in Australia anyway, DO NOT hire from the airport. Hire from somewhere in town and save yourself a fortune.

Hi Scott,
I am happy to try and help, and I'll encourage the developer to join in this discussion. I agree that customer support should always be top-of-mind and it's not your issue how many or few developers a company has. But your post had no details whatsoever so I though it was a little unfair. Maybe you were just very angry when you posted :-) Anyway, post the problem here and maybe me, or some other customer can help.

I think that's harsh. I have used this chap's software for about 5 years on and off and have found him to be quite agreeable, responsive and his pricing is good. I stopped using XTorrent in favour of Transmisson simply due to features and the fact the TVTorrents' tracker stopped allowing xtorrent for a while due to a technical issue. I think you'd be better off describing the actual issues you have had rather than just dissing what is, after all, just a one-man outfit.
Dave Sag replied on February 22, 2009 08:14 to the question "Jawbone ear pieces" in Aliph:
I have tried all of the little rubber things and ear-arches that came with my Jawbone but can't for the life of me get it to stay in my ear. I find myself constantly having to tap it in with my finger and then, inevitably end up hitting one of the little hidden buttons by mistake and cutting off my call. I am pretty much ready to give mine away.-

Dave Sag reported a problem in Sony on February 22, 2009 08:02:
It's Cybershot, not CypershotThe Cybershot product is misspelled here. Someone has listed a product 'cypershot' which is not a Sony product I have ever heard of.
Dave Sag reported a problem in LinkedIn on February 22, 2009 07:56:
iPhone app will not retain my credentialsI can't get the LinkedIn iPhone app to keep my credentials, meaning I have to log in every time I want to use it. This is so boring it's put me right off using LinkedIn at all.
