I suspect a tech person will be along shortly to help you , but in my similiar case (full backup to PC, and large partial backup to SD card), it turned out to be a firewall issue. You may want to disable firewall settings while backing up. In my case, I had McAfee, Defender and another spyware type checker all running at the same time. I uninstalled McAfee (didn't like it for other reasons) and the PC backup ran just fine.

This is a continuation of the previous message. Just before installing the Kaspersky security software (yesterday), I did a backup identical to the one performed after installing the software. The first backup ran, the second (after Kaspersky installation) failed. I then turned off everthing I could in Kaspersky and did another backkup and it failed. Then I removed the Kaspersky software and did yet another backup and it ran. All of these backups were to the SD card on my phone.
David Baughman asked a question in Sprite Mobile on September 30, 2009 18:38:
Security Software Interferes with Backup even when turned offI resolved (with Tama's help) a failure of my PC to finish backing up my phone by removing most of my Security Software (primarily McAfee). Turning off the firewall didn't do the trick. Now, when I have kaspersky security software on my cell phone (ATT Tilt with WM 61) and try to do a backup to the SD card, I get the same failure; the backup terminates at the very end and just says it "failed". When I remove the security software, the backup completes. The firewall is set to accept everything, and the virus scanner is disabled but the backup still fails unless the software is actually removed.
This is such an obvious problem it must have been resolved by now. Most people have some form of security software on their PC's, and lately, on their mobiles. I'm looking forward to some wisdom here (grin).
Thanks

David Baughman replied on September 29, 2009 03:18 to the question "Problems with excluding folders from backup" in Sprite Mobile:
Are caps significant? Udaya used lower case. Also, shouldn't his path read:
\Storage Card\Garmin\**\*.* rather than \Storage Card\Garmin\*.*\*.* ? Also, can't he just use the "exclude folder contents" rule (not sure of exact wording without bringing up the software) and have a path of \Storage Card\Garmin\ ?
I know the exclusion of folders on the SD card works well because I frequently exclude the music directory on my SD card. My music directory is about the same size as Udaya's Garmin directory (1GB) and doesn't need a daily backup.

David Baughman replied on September 29, 2009 03:03 to the question "Can I backup to the avail space on the SD card already in my HTC Tilt?" in Sprite Mobile:
I have an ATT Tilt with WM6.1. I frequently backup to my SD card and even include the non-music files that are on the SD card. The only problem I've ever had with the backups (made with an earlier version of Sprite), is for some reason, I get duplicate Windows Mobile help files when I restore. Since this is not a big problem for me I've never reported it here.

Backup Fail at End on WM61 ATT Tilt, quickly resolvedWhen my large backups failed when run from my PC, I asked for help from Tech support (in this case, Tama). The quick responses I received led me immediately to a problem with how my firewall was setup. My problem is solved and I'm a very happy person. THANKS!

1.2 GB PC backup of WM6.1 Tilt (HTC Kaiser) fails at very end.Backup runs completely then fails-6.5...Build 19 full (purchased),ATT Tilt (HTC Kaiser) WM 6.1
First, I've read this forum and downloaded the uninstall program to get rid of version 5.5 remnants on my phone. It completed successfully. I did a full backup from the PC (Win XP) using Active Sync as the network. I also backup up my SD card. The total data transfered (took a very long time) was over 1.2 GB. After completing this transfer the backup errored out. There was no error message other than to say there was an error. Compression was on, registry was checked and there were no exclusions other than the backup files already on the phone.
I have the log file and will be happy to attach it if you tell me how (I'll hit "Continue" here and see if it gives me that option).
Regards
Dave
