David Kuhn started following the question "Songbird is exceptionally slow." in Songbird.

David Kuhn marked one of Laura Thomas' replies in Songbird as useful. Laura Thomas replied to the problem "Update broke Vista - Songbird won't start".

The suggestion about running songbird.exe -p is probably the only thing you can do. Make sure you don't try your old profile - that will be hopelessly corrupt. Make a new profile and accept that all your plugins & bookmarks are completely gone.
Sure sucks to start over, but with Songbird it's your only option. Unless you dare to edit profiles and copy your old bookmarks over. (Good as long as these aren't the problems!)
As far as the slow scanning - my advice is to accept it. If songbird complains about your media data and asks if it should rescan - say YES. If you say no songbird won't start properly.
Properly configured Songbird is great for any music lover but it is very delicate.
I wish they would release a program to fix profiles! Or perhaps add profile error checking and allow some things to be bypassed if they are bad. If your media database seemed corrupt maybe Songbird could come up with a blank library until it was fixed.
Oh well, even with it's problems Songbird is an awesome way to find new music. It would be even better if it came with several pages of MP3 blogs to sample. Sure sucks to lookup and put in blogs evertime Songbird dies!-

Update broke Vista - Songbird won't startSongbird recently came out with an update. Trouble is now Songbird will no longer start. I have Vista - is that part of the problem? Another hint is that a box said something about bad data for my music collection and asked if I wanted to rescan. I said No which was apparently the WRONG answer!
Please help. I want my Songbird back!
A comment on the problem "Songbird goes slowly" in Songbird:
I use Songbird on my home vista system and on my work XP computer. There is no problem with browsing on the XP system at all. I wonder why. – David Kuhn, on April 30, 2009 11:17-

David Kuhn started following the question "Keeping the library up to date" in Songbird.

Songbird lost all of my library informationLibrary seemed normal on startup. After using songbird I noticed my library was empty. I imported media from my music directory like usual and still nothing showed up.

Songbird always tries to access old music directoryHad to move my music directory to another drive. Now Songbird always hangs up on startup with a message and tells me it can't find my old music directory. I tried reinstalling but Songbird still tries to access that directory.
What does Songbird do with that directory? Does it automatically scan for new mp3's?
Is there any file that I can edit to fix this? XML or java would be no problem.
By the way I love Songbird in spite of the bugs I've found. I'd gladly pay for a bug free release.
Thanks,
David Kuhn
