Our engineering team is looking into this issue.
It appears to be related to your carrier or distance (number of hops) to our servers. As you can appreciate comms related issues of this type can be difficult to replicate in a 'lab' environment. Rest assured however that we are making improvements in the robustness of the communications of the application to our servers in this area.

In our testing we have not been able to reproduce this issue using the "Launch Google Talk Gadget" link from the GTalk website http://www.google.com/talk/
If this is still an issue for you we would welcome any additional details you may be able to provide.

There are several IM clients available for use with GTalk. Which one were you using?
We have tested your scenario, setting invisible status, using the latest Google Talk Web gadget and could not reproduce the error message. Any additional information you can provide will be gr8.
