I suspect you have or had a logitech webcam. There's a known incompatibility, where the best way around it is:

"Uninstall the Logitech Quickcam software. Once uninstalled you will be able to install Thunderbird without any problems. If you want to keep your Quickcam software installed you can try to shut it down from the taskbar. Still the surest way to fix this is to just uninstall your Quickcam software. After you have completed the Thunderbird upgrade you can then reinstall the Quickcam Software."

I wonder if somehow you have outgoing news postings that Thunderbird is trying to send out. I would look in the "Local Folders" area in the left folder pane, under "Unsent", and see if there are strange messages there. If there are, delete them, and then I suspect Thunderbird won't ask about news servers.

Unfortunately I don't think Thunderbird supports that yet. There are plans to add tagging for contacts, which should allow a lot of organizational schemes, but that's not implemented yet.

Stock Thunderbird can't do that. In general, auto-reply is best done at the server, as that way it can happen when you're not on your computer.

There may be add-ons on addons.mozilla.org that do that, though.

This sounds like a configuration problem with the SMTP server that you're using. Thunderbird passes the message to an SMTP server, which is then responsible for getting it to its destination.

Yes, I agree, we need to find a way to let people reset the size of multi-sized messages. I've marked https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug... as a 'wanted-thunderbird3' bug, to see if we can get some more traction on it.

That's unfortunately a bug in the underlying platform. It may have been fixed in later versions, though, so you might try the Thunderbird 3 betas, and see if that problem still occurs.

In your account settings dialog, each account has a Junk Settings line, which brings up a dialog with a checkbox "Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account". Is that checked for your account?
