Oh - by the way I had to logout and login again, as a broken instance of songbird was already running.-

The libflashplayer.so link worked for me too, on Ubuntu 9.04 and Songbird 1.2.
The command was:
cd ~
ln -s ./.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so ./.songbird2/
