A comment on the problem "Opera browser support in Docs, Wiki, Gmail and others" in Google:
Alvero, you'll find the same problem in Yahoo Mail. It's an Opera bug -- really :-)
You didn't notice the problem before in Gmail because of another bug (since fixed) that caused Gmail to insert paragraph breaks instead of line breaks in Opera, which caused a lot of extra whitespace between lines. This meant that you probably never needed to press [enter] multiple times to begin with, which masked the underlying problem. – David Bloom, on August 07, 2009 19:02

> It isn't exactly rocket science to produce an online rich text editor which will work on any browser
Rocket science is probably a lot easier, actually. Trust me, I speak from experience :-)
The Opera issue you're describing is an Opera bug that they fixed in Opera 10. If you're feeling adventurous, try an Opera 10 snapshot from http://my.opera.com/desktopteam -- the bug should be fixed in that!
Another workaround is to type a space in every empty line, or use shift+enter to create new lines. – David Bloom, on July 24, 2009 14:08
A comment on the question "Too much compression on digital channels" in Comcast:
I don't think the signal is an issue. I can get local broadcast HD channels just fine through my TV's QAM tuner, for example, and they look great. The pixellation isn't severe, and it mainly occurs during dissolves and fade transitions in the video (which tend to be difficult to compress). – David Bloom, on February 23, 2009 04:13
David Bloom asked a question in Comcast on February 23, 2009 03:53:
Too much compression on digital channelsWhen I lived in Iowa, I enjoyed cable service (from Mediacom) having an all-digital lineup with almost no compression artifacts or pixellation. The picture looked almost DVD-like on every channel. They even managed to fit analog versions of the extended cable lineup on the same line too.
Comcast's service in the bay area looks terrible in comparison - it is smeared, pixellated, and, as a result, not very pleasant to watch. Is Comcast planning to allocate some of the bandwidth gained from eliminating analog channels to increase the bitrate of the digital channels (especially the SD ones)?

Hi Andre,
Text documents in Google Docs should already work in Opera, and spreadsheet support is coming soon. Presentation support will be a little bit tricker, because there are some bugs in Opera that we need to work around. We do let Opera users view embedded presentations now, though. – David Bloom, on September 06, 2008 15:22

We don't actually make Hotmail, Microsoft does. You might want to reask your question at http://getsatisfaction.com/microsoft

It might help to go to Preferences -> Advanced -> Toolbars
Then, uncheck "Double-click text to display context menu"
This option is on by default and normally doesn't cause problems, but I think turning it off might help in your case. – David Bloom, on August 02, 2008 20:16

Try single-clicking instead of double-clicking?
Does this affect http://mail.google.com/?ui=1 too? – David Bloom, on August 01, 2008 01:45
A comment on the problem "Opera browser support in Docs, Wiki, Gmail and others" in Google:
Preferences -> Advanced -> Content -> Blocked Content
Make sure that "about:blank" is not blocked. Unblocking it should cause Gmail to work again.
about:blank shouldn't be blockable, so this is an Opera bug. Opera is going to fix this in 9.52. – David Bloom, on August 01, 2008 01:30

Hi Dennis,
I'm also an Opera user, and I spend a lot of my time here at Google trying to address Opera compatibility issues. Here's some of the progress that we have made on the services you mentioned:
* Editing pages on Google Sites doesn't work very well in Opera. For example, it is impossible to apply toolbar commands to selected text. The good news is that a fix for this, and several other issues, is currently in the pipeline.
* Opera 9.5 fixed a lot of issues that affected Google Docs. There are still some issues remaining, but the most annoying bugs (such as long lines not wrapping) have been fixed. If you haven't upgraded to 9.5 yet, be sure to do so!
* Gmail currently serves the "old version" UI to Opera and IE6. The old version is missing a lot of nice features from the "new version" UI, such as faster performance and colored labels. We've been working on making the new version work better in Opera. You can try it out by going to http://mail.google.com/?nocheckbrowser (but it might not work perfectly).
The main roadblock to Opera support at Google is Opera's low market share (about 0.7% according to Net Applications). Firefox and IE get a lot more support because many more people use them. So, tell your friends to switch to the Opera browser and Google services :-)
Also, if you are good at Javascript, why not take matters into your own hands? http://www.google.com/jobs ;-)
