dburkhart replied on November 20, 2009 17:28 to the question "Is there a way to pause a recording in the force matrix?" in Tightrope Media Systems:
I have a similar situation. We handle it by just fading to black on the switcher and forcing a switch to Carousel (or some other input) on the Autopilot during the dead air. The encoder continues to record black. Then we switch back to program live and fade back in and finish out the meeting. After the meeting we lift out the dead space in the clip using Mpeg Streamclip to prep it for playback.

To change the volume level on any channel, go to your desktop and click on the green "SX" logo in the system tray on the right edge of the taskbar. That will open up the System Configuration program. Click on the Playback tab and you should see all your playback channels and be able to adjust them there. The same is true for the input levels on your record channels by clicking the Record tab.
dburkhart replied on October 29, 2009 21:45 to the problem "Keep Show ID's in sequence" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Here's the problem. There is no way for a user to "recreate" a show ID. That is assigned automatically in Cablecast, and it does so sequentially. That means you probably have created three other shows since the show in question. The Local ID is meant just for your own personal bookkeeping. It has no impact on Cablecast's operation. See if your original show ID (in this case 27) is listed under Show>Free Show IDs. If you see it in the list, click the number and make sure it's the right show. If not, go to Find Show, click the plus sign to add a search condition, and search for Show ID 27. If all else fails, just change the prefix on the server to 31.
Having said all that, Cablecast is supposed to create the Show ID's in sequence. If not, there could be a more sinister problem that would entail creating a trouble ticket.
Not sure if this helps, but I'm just a dumb user, too.
dburkhart replied on October 23, 2009 14:39 to the question "RF interference (?) messing up my audio" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Usually I find audio interference is caused by a power source or cord running too close to the audio lines, where the phase of the power cord matches the sine wave of the audio signal. But if you're hearing voices (I hear the voices when I forget my meds...), you could have an issue with the audio lines running into your SX unit. Check to see if the cables used are balanced, as these normally use well shielded cable stock. If you are stuck using an unbalanced line (such as an RCA cable), try repositioning your lines to get off the phase of the phantom RF. Are you aware of a nearby transmitter that may be the issue?
A comment on the question "Watch Live link on the Public Site" in Tightrope Media Systems:
I knew there was one I missed. Thanks, John. – dburkhart, on September 23, 2009 19:45
dburkhart asked a question in Tightrope Media Systems on September 23, 2009 18:47:
Watch Live link on the Public SiteI seen to be missing some small detail, and I need a refresher.
We recently moved all our Tightrope gear onto a separate network, thus requiring changing a slew of IP addresses, and I think I got 'em all. One problem, The "Watch Live" link on the Public Site is still referencing the old IP. After perusing the manual for hours, I can't seem to find the right menu/location/whatever to change this.
Any ideas?

Will VOD files remain after tossing Mpeg originals?I have a question that may be obvious to everyone but me, but here goes...
Do files that have been transcoded to a VOD server remain after being removed from the SX-4 server. The reason I ask, I would like to clean out files on the SX-4 that will no longer be used on our cable channel (ie: Council Meetings from February), but have them remain available on demand. I would assume transcoded files remain until one were to manually remove them, but I would prefer not to toss out a massive Mpeg file for space reasons and have the VOD file vanish by some automated process of which I'm not aware.
dburkhart replied on August 27, 2009 21:45 to the question "question about live feeds" in Tightrope Media Systems:
On the right-hand edge of the scheduled event you should see the word "Details." Click on that and it will take you to the Advanced Settings page. About halfway down you should see a Record Run checkbox. After checking that, a drop-down will appear asking what device to use as the recorder (something like "SX-Recorder 1"). Select your recorder and click the Save button. Send your Autopilot and away you go. Make sure to check to see if you're set by clicking the Record tab at the top of the Schedule page.-

dburkhart replied on August 03, 2009 19:52 to the question "Monitoring audio of encoded files through sx4" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Does your setup have a "preview monitor" output? Depending on your router, you should be able to run video and audio to a standalone monitor and force the show to playback though the Autopilot. In our case, we dedicated one of our playback channels to our control room through the switcher and audio console, which we use to both roll video during live productions and to audit encoded files. Granted, it's not as straightforward as just using WMP, but it gets the job done. Plus, you get to see and hear it in all its NTSC glory...
dburkhart replied on June 15, 2009 18:44 to the question "mpeg hiccups/stutters" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Sarah,
Check to see how much space is on your C drive. We had a similar problem whereby a corrupt mpeg file was crashing the SXConfiguration program, causing huge (400+ mb) memory dumps to show up in the Windows\system32 folder. This in turn filled the C drive to near-bursting and resulting in a similar playback "hiccuping" you describe.
dburkhart replied on April 02, 2009 13:16 to the problem "Changing record times on a live event" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Oh, I agree. As I said, I had fits the first couple of times I had a live event change times or get canceled. I consider it just getting to know the quirks of the workflow. Ya gotta screw up a few times before you really get to know the subtleties (and to answer your next question, yes, I've been known to over analyze things).
dburkhart replied on April 01, 2009 19:28 to the problem "Changing record times on a live event" in Tightrope Media Systems:
I think of it as two different actions. The first is just scheduling the event, which tells the router to switch the channel output to your live source. The second is telling the encoder to start recording (via the "details" link). I had fits with this at first, as well, until I started thinking of them as two separate actions. Hope that helps.

dburkhart asked a question in Tightrope Media Systems on February 24, 2009 21:42:
4.8 upgrade hiccupIn step 4 of the 4.8 Upgrade Guide, it mentions "The driver installation will now begin. Please continue the installation by following the instructions in the installer. This process may take up to 5 minutes, and it may appear that the computer has stopped responding. This is normal, and the process should not be interrupted."
My question is, suppose the computer has stopped responding for, say, 1 1/2 hours? Should I give up then and try a hard reboot? I have no control - mouse, keyboard or otherwise - and am anxious to get finished with this process.
dburkhart replied to "Autopilot error message", but it was removed. see the change log
