there _is_ no other wuala running on the System. I have the same behavior (see: http://wua.la/Wuala+Community/Bugs/In... ... wrote in german).
Also a full reinstall of wuala did not solve the Problem.

Deelkar reported a problem in Wuala on July 17, 2008 02:55:
login does not work as expected with new linux command line.follow wuala install instructions for linux, then when starting the client, do:
./wualacmd
(wuala starts, updates to current revision)
./wualacmd help
(wuala connects to running instance which displays help output)
./wualacmd login username password
(ofcourse use real user name and real password)
(Does just return to command line)
ps auwxf
(shows 2 java processes with wuala, one with the login command line, one without)
this state doesn't change for several minutes unless TERM signal sent to java process.
if wuala is not terminated every other command results in "socket already in use"

rtfm's reply to "How to login? First time command line..." was just promoted to the most useful! Deelkar and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Obviously there seems to be no possibility to create an account with the commandline-tool (yet).
Maybe you could use another computer with 32-bit-architecture to create the account and uninstall wua.la after that. Once you've created your account on the other machine you can login using the commandline-tool on your Ubuntu Linux.
Another possibility would be to download Knoppix with 32-bit-architecture (or similiar Live-CDs), boot it from the CD, just install wua.la to RAM, run the GUI-Version, create your account and reboot into your "normal" system.

A comment on the problem "Configuring wuala on headless linux server impossible" in Wuala:
The intention was to get help configuring the already running instance. So yes, there was one instance already running, which it somehow did not detect other than with the apparently recognized "login" command. – Deelkar, on July 16, 2008 22:54

Configuring wuala on headless linux server impossibleI can't seem to find any documentation about how to configure the "new" wuala version (133) on a headless linux server (or a 64 bit linux, which has basically the same problems, because gui doesn't work there).
Here is what I tried:
./wuala
#starts wuala
./wuala login Deelkar password
# of course I put my real password there, seems to work fine, adds another thread in "ps"
./wuala help
# this seems to do nothing, but after about 5 seconds I get the following:
Wuala closed because of an unexpected error.

ok so now we know that on windows the %temp%\wuala\ folder is constantly in use, thats ok. all i was asking for was information and documentation if this was proper behaviour of wuala.
but then again, there are these old folder structures in %programfiles%\caleido\wuala\data\temp\
what about that? is that still being used and needed? the uploading, downloading and parts/chunks were being handled there in the past. why is there a million files in there especially in the upload and download directories there.
and especially the upload dir in %temp%\wuala\upload\ is also filled with little chunk-files
this doesnt make sense. i really dont like chaos on my computer and if wuala has actually changed its behaviour and is using the %temp% rather then %programfiles%, why not cleaning up one of the two and migrating the appropriate files over to the real directory.
i have multi hundred megabytes of chunk-files in the old %programfiles%\caleido\wuala\data\temp\upload\ and also .\download\ in there.
:(
p.s. the filedates were from feb2008 and apr2008 in the programfiles temp-are in up and download, so i deleted all that crap in there and removed the directories right back to the temp level.
guess it was trash wuala never cared to remove. now thats real windows monopolist-like behaviour. filling storage areas with useless stuff or never actually caring to properly clean up your space you have once been using.
welcome to the windows world. wuala seems to have adopted all the best habits from other windows programs, installers and even microsoft themselves.
congratulations. way to go. thanks.

Some versions ago, we decided to use the system's temp folder for temporary stuff. You can safely delete everything in there as long as Wuala isn't "analyzing file x" in the status bar. We recommend to close Wuala before doing so. In theory, the temporary files should be deleted automatically (we call file.deleteOnExit when we create them, so Java should automatically delete them when Wuala shuts down, but that doesn't seem to work reliably). Do you think it is good to use the systems temp folder for temporary things or should we rather put all of Wuala's data at the same place?
