Sorry for the frustration. Do not spend a dime on this issue. This is covered by Dell at no cost. I apologize for the misinformation. Please post back your service tag, and I will get the service set up and get feedback to the agents who gave you incorrect information. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 27, 2008 15:11

That seems a little on the high side. I would update the video driver and BIOS, then watch very closely for video related problems. If you start to see problems, it's only a matter of time, and best to just replace the motherboard before it gets unusable. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 27, 2008 15:07

Service for both boxes is in the works. You should start hearing from the field techs along about Tuesday or Wednesday. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 27, 2008 15:06

Watch it real close, Herb. Even with the preventative steps you have taken, we may yet need to replace your motherboard. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 27, 2008 15:05

Nancy,
If you are experiencing the issue again, please contact tech support for another motherboard replacement. We have been assured that all current US replacement stock has been manufactured with the new die cast material that replaced the old material used which caused the original defect. It's possible your motherboard was replaced before the stock was completely purged, so you would need to have us replace it one more time. Sorry for the inconvenience. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 27, 2008 15:04

You should absolutely be able to get your motherboard replaced again. We have been assured that present replacement stock in the US is made up of parts Nvidia has said are manufactured with the improved die cast material that was the original root cause of the problem. If tech support denies you service, please post back and let me know. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 27, 2008 15:02

The Viz,
Both your services are set up to your "Apt C" address. Sorry for the delay. On the expired warranty one, the motherboard will come directly to you and the field tech will contact you to set up an appointment to come onsite to repair. On the one in warranty, the parts were shipped directly to the field service tech, who will also call to set up an appointment after he/she receives the parts. Thanks for your patience. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 27, 2008 14:23

You will need more. Specifically, you can see the information required at the link to the online ownership transfer below. However, I just checked the link, and it's temporarily down. You should be able to pull it up later. I am still going to try and get the service set up for this one, but you will definitely want to deal with that at some point. If you want to pass the reseller's email addy to me, I'll take it up with him directly next week sometime.

Thanks. Gotta run out and deal with my car. Ford better not ask me to write a product review for the 2003 Focus right about now. I will try to get home in time to dispatch parts for both systems, but may be delayed until tomorrow. Thanks for your patience. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 24, 2008 18:09

I will get the service taken care of, but the if the reseller buys them directly from Dell, they would be the original owner and should be familiar enough with Dell policy to know to provide you the information needed to complete an onwership transfer at point of sale, or at least when you contact them requesting the information. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 24, 2008 18:02

You got absolutely the 180 degree wrong message from tech support regarding the out of warranty system. Your warranty on that system, provided it has the Nvidia graphics chipset, has been automatically enhanced for 12 months past the original expiration for issues specific to Nvidia. Please post the service tag of the out of warranty system, and I will have the service set up and get feedback to the agents and manager who has provided you with inaccurate information. I apologize for the confusion. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 24, 2008 18:00

His situation is not like yours. He has a warranty through Best Buy, and the onus of informing him of his rights under that warranty was on Best Buy and not Dell. Your situation is that you cannot verify ownership. Like I said, you can get the registered owner information from the reseller and fill out a transfer of ownership form to get your mobo replaced. However, i got your service tag from your previous post. I will have a look and see what I can do. I will get with you offline in email. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 24, 2008 17:23

You have a more complicated situation than most. When you purchase a Dell system from Best Buy, they are the owners of your warranty, and all service will be handled through them, with exceptions for parts missing from the box. The only way to get service for a Best Buy system is to take the system to a Best Buy service desk. I am sorry, but that is about all I can offer. Maybe there is a way to ship it to someone stateside who could walk it in to Best Buy? You might also be able to contact Best Buy's corporate office and explain the situation. They might be able to set up a system exchange or return that you could handle by mail. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 24, 2008 14:12

Glad to help. I guess a warranty is a warranty, but a failing battery 2 weeks out of warranty is a tough pill to swallow. I would hate to lose future business over 2 weeks. Thanks for sticking with us, and let me know if you need any assistance finding the right desktop for your needs. I'll shoot ya straight. – Dell-Bill_B, on October 23, 2008 16:13
