I'd advise keeping away from paypal. They have some strange ideas about who owns the money your customers pay to you.

I currently use SagePay (used to be ProtX). Once it's set up, it all works fine with spreedly but it was really painful to get configured properly (sagepays fault, not spreedly).

I would prefer to move to RealExPayments in the future but they're not currently supported by spreedly.

This has suddenly become a big deal for me. I've a client who's going from a 5 plan setup to where the customers can mix&match items rather than pick a predefined package. However, they still want it to end up as a single monthly subscription.

The solution I've come up with is to dynamically create a plan using an API based on the permutation the user picks (and later users will automatically use the newly generated plan).

I'm assuming that switching payment gateways is as easy as reconfiguring the payment gateway in my spreedly config. So, for example, if I'm using auth.net and it goes down, I could just switch to epay (assuming I had a merchant acct with them) and everything would continue as normal. No users would have to enter their credit card details again?

OK, that all makes sense. I just need to add a link from my app so that an admin can subscribe a users account if they have the CC details.

If the payment gateway goes down (like just happened with authorize.net) and new users sign up via spreedly, are the charges attempted again by spreedly?

I'm trying to document the best process to handle this situation. I can take the creditcards manually from some customers, and make a single charge when the virtual terminal is available (and comp them a months worth of store credit on spreedly) but then I'm not sure do charges occur as normal in a months time or do I have to get the user to enter their card again.

Nathaniel, any update on this. Here's an example of how it's a problem. My user is on acme.statushub.com and decides to change his account details. He clicks through to https://spreedly.com/statushub/subscr.... He updates the details and clicks save. At this point the links back to my site point to the marketing site (statushub.com), not to the subdomain for that user (acme.statushub.com).

It seems to me that the 'Subscription selection URL on your site' should support a screen_name placeholder and there possibly should be a new 'Return URL to your site' which also takes a screen_name placeholder.

It would be great to be able to set up a few different types of discount vouchers for people signing up for subscriptions. They could be set up manually with the admin ui, or programatically. It would also be nice to have validity periods on them and perhaps a usage limit.

It would be great if there was support for styling the end-user pages. I don't mean just a logo - I mean documenting the structure/classes used and allowing a custom CSS file.

Actually, I've decided to avoid depending on the behaviour anyway. When someone returns from spreedly, I immediately invalidate their cached status and re-query spreedly.
